When we first moved here we had a problem with fleas. I put in all in my carpet, all over my animals, even on my mattress plus on the yard. http://www.earthworkshealth.com/
I bought some on amazon too.

Hi everyone,
My husband bought this really cool incubator. I put 30 Rhode Island Red eggs and 28 hatched. The problem is 11 are roosters. Now, I have 15 roosters that I have to chase out of my chicken area to avoid them ripping up my hens. I don't know how to get rid of my 3 month old roosters. I posted several listings on Craigs list but only one response. I bought my first chickens from Carolina Town and Country Flock swap but they were all sick. 2 out of 10 died. We then decided not to ever go back to flock swaps. We bought 20 or 30 Rhode Island Reds from McMurrey Hatchery over a year ago and they have been doing great! I get 24-26 eggs a day. Even in the winter. Now the 3 month old hens are laying little eggs. :)
How do you sell your Roosters, Hens and eggs weekly?

Even if you don't buy at the swaps and auctions, they are great places to sell off extra birds. I've never had a problem selling my eggs...the market created itself when I got my chickens. I can sell all I produce, although I'll keep in at 30 dozen a week or fewer so I don't have to grade. Just mention chickens and eggs at work, club meeting, or anywhere else you go.

DE works but it's ruining the honey bee population.

Does having sand in the run add flea problems? - I don't think so...

I have not seen any fleas on any of our animals - including our LGD and our aussie who are out all the time.

Our problem is TICKS!!!!!!!!!! I am about to go crazy trying to get rid of the darn ticks!!!!
7 th
We have a flock of guinea hens that keep the ticks at bay around the house/yard, so our indoor dogs never have ticks, however, our outside dogs get them continually despite all my efforts. They patrol the property (50ac) and go in the woods, tall grass, etc. If anyone has any suggestions, please advise.

I have used Frontline Plus but it was useless so the Advantix II was recommended. It seemed to work at first and now it is totally useless. We even tried the Preventic Tick Collars in combination with the Advantix II more frequently and totally useless. I am at my wits end. I finally bought some Flea and Tick spray for dogs and sprayed them down with that in conjunction with the Advantix II and Preventic collars. No luck! I am afraid I am going to kill them with all these chemicals but they could also die from lymes disease.

Anyone have any other suggestions? I am desperate!

I hear ya about the ticks. I found our first tick back in March I was like this is going to be bad. And it has until just recently I started letting the chickens out in the back of the house (all sides are heavily wooded) for a couple of hours before dark. But I have noticed less ticks. Not sure if they are really eating them or what. Sorry to hear the Guineas are going other places. I wanted to get some guineas last year but was vetoed by everyone else in the house. So compromise we got some chickens. We have 32 acres but really 7 that the house is on and that we on very much. and ticks are everywhere!

I know there is a new flea/heartworm and something else preventative that the vet can give you. I cannot remember the name right now but I know it is rather expensive. My mom uses it for her lab that is always outside. I will find out the name and I will let you know.

I had always posted my roosters for free on craigslist and surprisingly people always came for them....
People would go crazy for the extra day old roos they'd throw in hatchery shipments as packing peanuts.

I am going to stalk Lowe's reject paint section until I find something cheap that I like. I was thinking greyish, maybe a pink accent...Afterall, they are hens - no Roo's here!
