North Carolina

I had a small bantam with a broken leg about 2 months ago. I kept him inside and called avian and exotics vet and I gave him crushed baby aspirin and duramycin and wrapped it with a small ace bandage and he was well within 3 weeks. I didnt even have to take him to the vet. Although now every time I opens front door he bull rushes me to get inside... 3 weeks in the air conditioning spoiled him! Lol. Can't say as I blame him. It was broken just below the knee. Not through the skin though...thank God! Hope that helps! Good luck.

the circle of life rolls around here at the farm. i buried my sweet 'little' Ruby this afternoon. and came back to the barn to clean out her cage and sterilize it. i found my sweet ladybug(a mutt) had 7 chicks :love i had just checked her this morning, so they all hatched, with in a few hours. I moved some birds around, and moved her, and my two ther momma hens into a large coop so they could raise the baies safely. as I was moving birds around, I found my buff orp girl also had 6 chicks :love, so into the broody coop she went. and just got back in from lock and found that my cochin hen velvet has duck eggs pipping  wasn't expecting those for another 4 days. so a bad day, turned out to be okay.

Thank you all for all your support. Thanks beth for the advice, I think may have been what it was, so I added ice bottles to the other meat rabbits, and brought the two smaller(dwarf and mini rex) rabbits inside.

Hey all I need some help!

My cat has been acting really weird since we got home this week. He loves to go outside, but we've noticed he is gone from the time he wakes up until we make him come in at night. We don't live on a busy street, but we keep finding him sprawed out in the middle of the road which is new. He doesn't seem to be eating or drinking as much as normal, but we thought maybe he was getting it elsewhere while out all day. But something about his personality is just off. And he was pretty overweight, but he's lost some noticeable weight, even though he's still not under weight.

I went to get in the shower tonight and there was diarhea in my shower (which his litter box is all the way downstairs and he usually just meows to go poop outside instead of the box. We gave him a flea bath a little while ago and he was laying on the foot of the bed while we watched tv. He jumped up and went into the bathroom in our bedroom and had mucousy BLOODY diarrhea all over our bathroom floor. We just cleaned it up and I had my husband bring up the litter box. As I am typing this he's now back in my bathroom having more diarhea which looks like all blood. My husband tried to give him a couple of his favorite treats and he wants nothing to do with it.

He could have drank water somewhere outside with parasites? He could have gotten worms? While (hopefully) unlikely, he does wander the neighborhood a bit if someone didn't like him they could have poisoned him? He could have gotten into something?

This is the first time anything like this has ever happened. He is almost 7 years old, and we rescued him from the shelter 2 1/2 years ago. He is up to date on rabies. When we got him he was negative for FIV, but I guess it's possible to contract? He is neutered and sleeps inside at night. He is the only cat we have.

I don't know of any emergency vets open at this hour. My husband called the vet this morning to make an appt since I thought he was acting odd, but they didn't have anything open this week. I will have him call back in the morning and tell them it's an emergency.
He's back in the bathroom again with more bloody diarhea.

Can anyone give some insight on what it could be??? My cat is like one of my children, I feel so helpless.

Parasites in a cat that age will not cause a sudden onset of bloody diarrhea. Coccidia in a kitten could, but he's beyond that stage.

Fayetteville has an emergency vet clinic, and North Star Animal Hospital also runs an emergency clinic, although they come in for emergencies rather than staff for it. I'd at least call them, and be prepared to go in.

And good luck!

Good Morning, Happy Chicken People!

Dutchbunny, I hope your cat is okay. Matt had a very good point! Bring that one up to the vet, too.

Running late this morning....see you later!
