Miss Lydia, Thank you so much for your pointers, I am VERY happy to hear that I can get away without electricity in the coop. The coop is a good 200+ feet from the closest electric outlet, phew!! I think we are looking more at layers than for meat (especially since I have NO clue where a butcher is, and I am NOT about to learn how to do that...if I had to, I'd probably end up being a vegetarian
) Although, we'd love to have both!! In my research, I was leaning towards "hardy" breeds...mainly because I thought the pictures were so CUTE!!
So far, my "wish" list includes: Wyandotte, Orpingtons, Cochins, Jerseys, and Buckeyes (to pay homage to my "home state"
). If I keep doing all of this research though, I might end up needing to buy some more land so I can supersede BHep!!
HT...we are dying to see these pictures!!
If I can post a picture of my coop in progress, I have faith that you will be able to post a photo of your new babies. I can tell you we are all SUPER EXCITED
to see these photos!!
I will continue to "stalk" this thread until I see photos!!
