Hi everyone! Another warm day here :-) My kids are 10, 8, 6 & 4 years old and they all still believe in Santa

My oldest two don't believe in Sammy, our elf on the shelf, but they are very interested in keeping a secret and tricking the littler two! They like being in on it and definitely don't feel the need to "enlighten" them. I'm so lucky that I don't have to deal with that yet! Have a great day!

way to go for your older two, my older siblings always ruined things for me lol

I keep hearing how fabulous duck eggs are.
I'm thinking about getting a few this spring since the turkeys will be gone.
I have a coop and a 8'x20' run/
Can I just put in a kiddy pool and fill it with fresh water everyday or do I need a legit pond? I've heard of people keeping ducks in backyards....
Also, any suggestions on breeds that lay the best/most often? Don't really know much about them....

Edit: Think I'm going to go with the Khaki Campbell since they're small, aren't big flyers, and lay like crazy. Ideal sells sexed pullets (they're listed as pullets guess that's what you call female ducks as well?). I think I am going to get 3 to try it out. Waiting until Spring until after the quail. Still don't know about the pool though?

Curious-- anyone ever eat duck before? What's it like? (I know the Campbell's aren't a "meat" breed and don't plan on eating them, but was thinking about getting 1 pekin just to try it...)

I've only ever eaten duck in restaurants - overseas - but when I did, it was AMAZING! Not sure what kind it was, but I was in Northern Ireland so probably some European breed. I still drool every time I think of it.......

As for a pond... you could dig up an old bathtub from the re-store or somewhere and use it. Plug the drain into a hose out to the garden area maybe? I've seen kiddie pools, small pond setups, livestock troughs you name it. The key thing I think is to make sure that the water they will inevitably splash out has somewhere to go so that it doesn't end up one giant mud pit. http://www.pinterest.com/pin/425660602252407899/

Hey guys-- giblets question-- preparing my turkey for Christmas dinner-- are there any organs I shouldn't use?
I mean obviously not the intestines or stomach, but heart, kidneys, liver that's all good?
I vaguely remember something about having to be careful doing chickens because the appendix or something can leak bile into the bird? I didn't really pay attention as I'm not the one who cleans them...
THANKS!
