Thanks everyone for the compliments!!!

Mama C, If you ever want to stop by and see it in person, just let me know. Also, I will be glad to offer any ideas/solutions if you need. Heck, you will probably have ideas for me. Right now I am working on the bachelor pad for the boys. I've just gotten finished making sure that my coop/runs are snake proof.

You are right about the hawks and other predators in our area. People hear you in disbelief, but until you actually live here day to day it's hard to comprehend just how many different predators that we have.

Too many predators! I caught a raccoon last night in one of the traps. I had no idea how vicious they were! He had me scared to walk up to the trap!

Speaking of vicious, I had a fox last year to stand up on her hind legs and chase me back into the house. I immediately solved that problem with Mr. P-Max. I really should have called animal control and had her tested for rabies. I'm almost sure she was rabid, or she may have been that desperate to feed her young. She was very sick looking though. Now when I go outside, I always have a weapon within reach. You just never know.

I will be happy to never have to see a raccoon again but I'm sure I'm going to see alot more predators around soon. We are starting to clear a part of the property where I doubt people have even walked through in over 100 years. I do know there are a couple of civil war grave sites up there and tons and tons of deer and I know once we start clearing, we'll have critters coming into other areas! Hopefully keeping away from my coops though.

HenThymes, glad to see someone else from the Western side of the state! We live in Ashe not to far from you.
We are planning on getting a few Buff's, have you had good luck with them?

I grew up going to Lake Waccamaw as a kid and still go to this day, and it's been over 20 years now, love the lake and the Anchorge camp. Has the fishing been any better, we've been skunked of the big bass the past couple of times down?

Hi neighbor, we love it here, we are in the country yet only 5 minutes from everything, who could ask for more?

I love my Orpingtons!

I currently have Lavenders in LF orpingtons and b/b/s in bantam orps. Surprisingly the bantam ors lay fairly good size eggs. My lavenders are egg laying machines and rarely miss a day and they are very nice size eggs. I do have a couple of buff bantam orp girls that I had for a project that are not going to work out that I recently put up for sale if anyone is interested??

Thanks for letting me know about the Buff's, my daughter picked those out when we place our order, have'nt finished our coop and run yet but hopefully before summers over, if the heat will let up we might get some things done.

We also live a few minutes out of town, but even in WJ it's not even a small town so it's pure delight to live up here

Did you see the hutches that my DH is making? They have really taken off, he has two orders for this weekend and he is making me a bachelor hutch with four separate pens in it. I will post pictures of it just as soon as he has it done.

Single hutch, big enough for a couple of bantams.
