The ground was too wet out here to do what I planned. I wanted to get the driveway fixed so it would be one less thing on the hubby's to do list (you know those few things keeping him from getting the coop built). I am "flooded" in and couldn't get out (without getting stuck...stupid dirt path) so that scratched the Habitat Restore visit. Oh well. I managed to can about 4 months worth of baby food while I was "cooped" up.

So...speaking of baby food, what kind of food do your babies (chicks) eat??

Hope everyone is having a great day!!

Got our first duck egg of the year, little Ruth Ann went inside the chicken coop and laid the first one.. So it has officially started just wish I knew someone besides me who would use them.. My dh won't eat them so I usually end up using them for baking and cooking and giving them to our dogs.. chickens will eat them too.. New, do you buy your veggies etc. and then cook and make your BB food that way? long time since I had any baby food in my house.. I have 3 grand children... I feed my chicks Chick Start-N-Grow. Usually the medicated kind.. our ground is saturated, and our wet springs are running..which is nice for the ducks..

Miss Lydia, do you have any Chinese restaurants near you? I heard recently "$1 per large duck egg", but that is high end and probably jumbo size eggs. You can also call any Asian markets or other Asian restaurants. Call your closest bakery!

I hate to hear of duck eggs going to waste. We had two Easter ducks one year that were both girls. We couldn't give the eggs away. We didn't eat Chinese food back then **(early to mid 1970s). Now that I know there *is* a couple of markets for eggs, I try to pass the word.

**Several years back I introduced my parents to the concept of stir fry. When Dad complained about it, Mom pointed out it was "pepper steak with extra veggies". Now Dad asks for "that stir fry stuff" about twice a month.

Now I am officially your duck's biggest fan!!

As for my Baby food...yes, I buy organic veggies (just until I grow my own...c'mon GROW....stupid deer/black thumb/new garden), steam them, puree them and shove them into old sterilized baby food jars or ice cube trays. I did a cost analysis and I end up saving on average over $10 per "veggie" plus it exposes her to more veggies than your standard grocery store. She's had avocados, asparagus, eggplant, cauliflower, broccoli, zucchini, spinach, potatoes, beans of all sorts - anything I can get my hands on!!

Next month we "graduate" to fruit so that will open a whole new world to her. I also make my own baby cereal/oatmeals, granola, breads - thus the whole "homesteader" idea. Someday I hope to have my own eggs...perhaps even milk (although DD and I are allergic

). I'll be a regular Laura Ingles.

Hey NH are you allergic to all milk or just cows milk. I hear of alot of people that drink goats milk, plus the benifit of cheeses and soaps. Just a thought.
