DE does nothing.  Over and over I see people say they don't understand why their birds get mites/lice since they have DE everywhere.  It's simple.  'DE' DOES NOTHING for mites or lice.

DE is used as a perventive measure but does not stop all the mites or lice. Sevin dust wil kill the lice.

DE is prevention. Wood ash is also good for mites.

Hey guys! Haven't been on in while.. been quite busy! I've got a question.. Has anyone seen anything like this before? She got something in her eye the other day. I managed to get it out (it looked like a small piece of leaf or something). However it aggravated it pretty bad and the second lid isn't going back down..I've flushed her eye out several times, but its still not going down.. Anyone have any ideas? I'm afraid whatever she got stuck in her eye injured it. The other eye is fine... just the one she got something stuck in.. Any suggestions? Oh and out of curiosity has anyone heard of chocolate orpingtons?
That film is her third eyelid- she's keeping it covered because it's irritated. If it's still a problem {'cause I'm late to the party and just now getting to email}, you can try some opthalmalic eye ointment.

DST-- I have chocolate orpington eggs in my 'bator ( as well as jubilee), but I don't have much hope for them with the number USPS did on them.  Got them from Greg Mignot at www.ultimateorpington.com

BUMBLE FOOT--  Never had any experience with it, about to look it up on here now, I think my Blue Marans has it.  It's almost like she got something stuck in the main pad of her foot and got it dirty?  But now it's all swollen.  My husband was trying to pick the dirt off of it and it started to bleed so I told him to stop and not do anything until I got on here.  Any suggestions on what do to?  Is bumble foot a cut that gets infected or am I way off  and that's something different?

The chicken chick has good info on bumblefoot. She's also used Vetericyn treatment sucessfully.

Moonlight Mile Herb Farm {Susan Burek} has herbal treatment for bumblefoot that is supposedly very effective. I'm all for not cutting stuff out and risking bacteria introduction; sometimes you might have to.

Thanks Tikki :)

Whew, it's hot today! Had some work to do outside, but think I'll do laundry in the ac instead!

Haha I think I need more chickens!!!
Once I finally figured out how to advertise to sell eggs since we don't have people we work with or anything, the girls I have aren't laying nearly enough. I'm getting about a dozen a day, but selling out like a week in advance.
No takers or duck or quail eggs though.

I see duck and quail eggs at auction they usually go around 3-6 bucks a dozen or you could start breeding an expensive kind of egg eating snake that you can sell for extra money lol pickled quail eggs would be cute too
Thanks Tikki :)

Who likes sebrights? All but the one I had in the brooder got killed so he's up grabs I believe hes a lilac he came with an assorted batch and he's under 2 months old I'd also trade for a barred or cuckoo oeg bantam hen or bantam silver phoenix maybe other types just make me an offer he may go to auction friday

I don't get that many duck eggs so I was selling them $2.50/6 based on what others said at farmer's market.
My quail eggs are for eating, I had them for $1.50/dozen just because we're getting more than we can eat.
My duck eggs could be fertile, but my quail, turkey, and chicken aren't. Even though the average person probably couldn't tell if they were fertile, everyone that's bought them has specifically asked because they don't want to eat fertile eggs.
We live in town I don't keep roosters at all.
Actually the only males I have are 1 drake Pekin (who is making my neighbors miserable by loudly raping my girl ducks so he may have to go) and my peacock. All the others are females.

I hear a lot about pickled quail eggs actually farmraised! I don't know, I've never had pickled eggs, but doesn't seem like something I would be into. I like pickled vegetables though. What do you do hard boil them, peel them then pickle? That seems like a lot of work to peel those tiny eggs! I won't eat hard boiled eggs either. I'm super picky about eggs haha. And I think I'll skip the egg eating snakes
