Thanks everyone who have tried helping me with my poor hen. The "egg" we thought we felt was just a hard build up of stool. I had given her several baths and she seemed more relaxed, but no egg. I felt around again today and we felt nothing, but pelvic bone... She is happy, eating with vigor, and drinking plenty of water. We have ruled out Mereks because she has no other symptoms and every other bird is completely normal.. Mereks would spread terribly and she is the only one. Just out of the blue..

However we do think we figured out what has possibly happened to her legs. I was not home when this all happened (was at my dad's) but my mom says this hen was the only one missing from the coop the night before and found her in the morning like she was (not being able to move her legs). We think she was attacked by some animal or fell and hurt herself some how. There are no puncture wounds, but that doesn't mean anything. We think she has hurt something and is not able to use her legs...

She's not in any pain though! (from what we can tell). She isn't jerking or showing normal signs of pain when we have been handling her, and it almost appears as if she couldn't feel it when we were moving her legs and trying to see if she was egg bound. Poor thing.. if she doesn't pass in the next day or so and doesn't get any better, we think we will just have to put her out of her misery.

Its not fair to keep her like this if she isn't in good shape.

it might be some toxin she found while free ranging or the feed might have had mold.

Sounds like mating. Young roosters mature at different times just like humans. The older hens are probably not putting up with him so he is going for one he can get. I would take him out of that pen/ area and pen him by himself until the youngest ladies are ready. Good luck

Mereks doesn't necesarily hit every bird, and not all birds will have the same type of mereks, so they won't show all the symptoms. And as said above, she could have fund a poison or as you said got hurt. But if she is not reacting to you touching her legs or feet, putting her down might be the best thing. Sorry.

Good morning folks

It as been like going in a sauna these last few days.
It poured two days ago and we had several chicks
dog pile and lost some but the rest seem to be doing
good so we will continue to brood outside. We are losing
less chicks this way and it is less work too. They sure
are cute.....and independent.....and two new turkey poults.

hope everyone has a good day

Anyone using poultry nipples???

I want to build a system out of pvc to replace the constant scrubbing and refilling of all these waterers you buy at the store.
I've been looking online and there are a lot of people complaining about ones not working or leaking.

Did anyone have any issues converting your flock?

Is there a brand or type you'd recommend?

THANKS!
