Good morning! Can't believe I am on here before CSB!
I had my first hawk attack yesterday, I lost one of the Ameracauna roosters I was planning to take to doubleAtraining today. But now my chickens won't come out of their coop and the ducks won't hardly come out of the chicken run in. Which is okay, the longer they stay hidden, the more likely the hawk is to lose interest and move on. I moved my wind petal out there and a wind chime to see if that will help scare it off. I also ordered an owl from Amazon.
Their coop and run, and the duck house and pools are in my back yard, a 100 x 100 attached fenced area. Originally, I wanted chickens that would free range in my pasture/barn area, but instead, I decided to put them up close where I thought they would be safer. I understand that hawks are part of the risk when free-ranging, but I hate that my animals are now petrified.
Any advice?

Most folks sell fertile hatching eggs for $1-$2 each depending on the breed.Black austarlorp, ee, rir, welsummer, light Sussex, if lucky some Silkie eggs. This is what is avalible now. I have several other breeds but I have no eggs to spare in those breeds. But for future reference. I have lavender Orpington, red laced wyadotte, buff ORP, white leg horn, Cochins, barred rocks and black sexlinks. I can do I great surprise barnyard mix lol. Umm as for price 5$ for a dozen hatching eggs? Fair? I really have no clue what they go for lol

Happy Weekend!
Yes! I take pallets and put legs on them (hubby does, really) and place them out in the pastures. The chickens then have a place close to run to if a hawk is seen. Works well here. They just need some cover. Ours have pretty good sections of pasture to run on. I think I have pictures on my profile. I'll need to look.
DUTCHBUNNY...how are you doing since the stroke. Don't be a stranger.
Spent this morning sending the last dozen Cornish X to freezer camp. After we get cleaned up and hubby gets back from a run to the dump, we'll hop on one of his Harleys and zip over to Wilmington for the gun show. I always keep my eye out for powder horns. Powder horns I can afford. I want to hang a bunch of them on a small section of wall. I don't want to pay a couple hundred apiece for them, but when I find one for $20-$30 bucks I grab it.
