Good morning folks

Another amazing day is in the chute and ready to go.
There is definitely a change in the weather that brings
the feel of autumn and warm fires. I hate to say it but I
have seen both Halloween AND Christmas decorations
for sale in the stores already. Whatever happened to
doing one at a time?

Beautiful day here. But it is sooo dry there are cracks in the ground on my hill. This clayish soil is really stiff land. If its wet its hard to work and if its totally dry its almost like rock. Blessedly most of the time its in between. I do use a lot of chicken compost in it which helps.
I checked my flock and so far no more red mites. I only saw them on one chicken about 3 wks ago but went all out with the ivermectin and sevin dust. I cleanned out and disinfected the coops too. Now my poor flock is going through a snowblizzard of moulting. The worst ever.
Both of the roos are having crowing contest . I love it.

One full grown Del. is leading the new buff orp.
My hb is building me 20 inch high raised beds. Each is 12 ft. long . We put wire in the bottom to prevent the voles from decimating any root crops in them. When you get older or have health problems these are really great to use. So far I have 5 and am working on num. 6. I would love to have 10 of them all told. Then I could rotate plantings so nothing is going to hurt something else. Such as do not plant potatoe where you have had tomato.
Hope everyone has a great fall day.

Here we are at a Friday again. I need to mow again so I
hope the weather co-operates. I also need to rake up
the pine straw. There are more than enough yard chores
to get done.....if it does not rain.....that's a lot of "if" lately.

Good morning,

I am a noobie chicken owner. 17 odd weeks ago we bought our first 3 pullets from mypetchicken.com and they have lived very happily in our backyard in Charlotte ever since.

This morning I heard Elizabeth crowing (!!) and after doing some research, including asking the experts here on BYC, I am convinced that she is a he. I can't keep roosters in Charlotte city and am looking to rehome him asap. Is anyone looking for a sweet buff orpington rooster in the Charlotte area?

Pictures attached.

Well, I'll just add my "cheery news" of the week. Haven't worked on my run much due to rain,.,, need only a couple of days! Then on Wednesday, on the way home, I had someone merge in my lane...I had no where to go so I had to take the shoulder....then the gravel, then the grassy part..they just took my lane away!!!

The grass was wet and slick so I was off the races to keep from flipping!! Kept the 4 wheels on the ground but with all of the bouncing..,it tore my wheelchair loose although being tied down from 4 corners with motorcycle tie downs.,,,then the weight of chair bouncing put so much stress on the lift...the steel was ripped apart and left on the ground with the chair. It was all spread over about 25' before I could get those 4 wheels stopped! The other driver never stopped

and giving the benefit of the doubt, I wonder if I was in her blind spot,....but it doesn't help me. Now I have my car but its only part of my independence!!! If have very far to walk,,,,I can't.... I fall very easily if there is any unevenness of the ground/floor/etc !!

Ok....that's my pity party for today...just trying to get the estimates and wondering about the $$, etc. So this week has been really yukky! Sorry to be dumping on something that has nothing to do with my ladies, except I can't finish the little things in the run. They are really enjoying the run and I can hear them fighting for position to get out the pop door!! LOL They are really the joy of my life right now,...
