North Carolina

I'm in Raleigh.Yeah, incubating pea eggs is iffy - I have had mixed results with my styrofoam incubator so I just upgraded to the Brinsea that controls humidity. I think that was my main problem but I won't know until I try it out. ;-) Either way - you incubate or I do - fine with me. They start laying in March, or so. I have four hens, three India Blue and one India Blue Pied. I hatched all of them. The male is India Blue. There's a good fb group - Peacocks Only - that you might like. Lots of terrific advice. Many of them are from the Louisiana/Texas/Oklahoma part of the country but they are helpful and you learn a lot about every aspect of keeping peafowl. Peafowl incubate at 99.5 but for 28-29 days. I believe the humidity is higher for them, but I was going to check that when I have eggs to set.

That's not too far. I'll be working at Fort Bragg so I could come up after work, when the time comes.
I'll check out the FB group. I never use FB but I will check that out.
I used to live in SW OK. It was much drier, more like New Mexico. I also lived near Tulsa for 4 years but only had chickens and Gunieas. It was sometimes humid but if they are in a drought, it's also pretty dry.
I've only lived in one place as humid as here. That was WA, near Olympia.

Good morning folks

We are having some nice autumn weather. I hope it lasts a good while
The eclipse was nice to watch while on my way to work.....only complaint
is I could only get glimpses while at stop lights or stop signs until I got
to work. We could only see the eclipse part way as the sun came up
and the moon set before it was all over. I have seen the full show many
years ago when I was much younger.........it is a rare sight. I wonder if
the chickens noticed?

Hi everyone! I am new to chickens (as an adult anyway) and new to BYC! We have two rescued Ross hens that came to us about two months ago, who are adjusting nicely and as sweet as can be. We also have ten chicks (3 buff orpington, 2 black australorp, 2 americauna, 2 barred rock, and 1 brahma). We live in north Chatham County between Jordan Lake and Apex. I am very excited about this new adventure and wanted to see if there is anyone else in our area on here. Thanks for having me, and I hope you all have a wonderful day! :D

I could have helped you with the wheaten ams but a month ago, an owl got my best wheaten roo. I'm left with an average roo that I honestly never wanted to use. but i'll hatch some just to see what happens. I don't think i will be breeding this breed. I'm going to focus on mille fleur leghorns, favs and marraduna basques.

Just an early heads up for some early December family fun. Come on out and see some birds, there will also be a concession stand and raffles. My kids and I went last year and had fun and learned a few things too.

Good morning folks

I see the show season is fast upon us. We started out looking
at the show at the state fair and while it's okay to start there you
really want to see birds at poultry shows like the two mention here.
There is a big difference in birds and quality of each breed. We are
slowly moving towards improving our flock to show breeding quality.
It makes for better birds and costs more to feed poor quality than
it does good quality. Nothing wrong with backyard birds but they can
be better birds too.
