Got the now empty Juvenile Detention Center cleaned out this morning, along with the brooder. The older chicks in Grow-out and out in a chicken house are all doing well. 22 chicks left yesterday. I'm hoping at least that leave Saturday when someone comes to get cockerels. I have to sort them tonight and tomorrow.

We got rain, but not the damaging storm we were anticipating, so we are content. Everyone is dry and comfortable. Can't ask for more.

6 days old when I took the picture on Saturday.

Lacy is a 9 year old pet bantam cochin. The 10 babies are all bantam Cochins(Mottled, Blue mottled, Frizzled, Black and Blue). Lacy didn't actually hatch any of them. They were hatched in my incubator. Lacy went broody just in time. She was on a nest 5 days before she got babies. This is her 6th time raising chicks. She has proven herself time and time again as a great mother.

LOL....yeah, kinda OT! I've been avoiding FB as of late, I'll pm you my email and we can take this convo there. If you want to see my guys, you can Google GFX Morelia and check the images tab, lots of them are there. I make good use of chick down to get my babies started, but have not fed chicks off before because I caponize extra cockerels. IKR?? I had 3 of them originally, the others had giant comb/wattle combos too. She's a total brat like a roo as well, nothing but attitude. She's my tomboy hen for sure.

Blue Andalusians tend to have a big comb and wattles. Most of the mediterranean breeds do.

snake conversation. They can be quite interesting creatures.

We thought we had a turkey hen going broody but is seems
she was more of an almost broody. She was hissing and giving
quite the "leave-me-alone" attitude but once she was rousted
out of the nest box she was over herself and being broody.
Oh well......maybe she will try again soon.

I have one hen that will give you the dickens if she is in the laying nest. You'd think she was an evil incarnate broody but is lovely once off the nest.

What personalities. She went broody once and was a lovely nice lady

what a mess. Their personalities are something else. I am suppose to be hatching chicks this wk. in an incubator. Three more days.. The last I did did not do well. Since buying an egg shapped digital thermometer and placing it in there and a reg. digital thermometer, I hope I know why. They were cold. My thermostat on the 1588 hatcher was way off. Here's keeping my fingers crossed for these. They are from Kathy in Mo. Delewares and German NH. 3 just 3 days. I am going crazy. So today its outside chores, ones I love to do. Planting new blackberry bushes, planting cucumbers etc. Have a wonderful Spring day everyone.

We have 2 hens raising chicks right now and 4 more have just gone broody. One of the new broodies is is just pure evil. Normally, she is very sweet and likes to sit on my shoulder while I do chicken chores. The ones raising chicks have calmed down a whole lot now. They are still very protective of their chicks and have been known to just randomly attack my lazy dog for taking a nap.. But they are trusting me now. It's so cute to see them come running to me with their chicks to see if I have treats for them.
