Does Tractor supply sell white leghorns in the spring? Ive never bought chicks from them

My Tractor Supply has in the past but they go really fast...they also provide me a chick schedule when I request it. Do you have a Southern States nearby? They usually have them also...

Someone asked about Little Birdie Hatchery. I have used them on a regular basis...but not for purchasing Americaunas. I have gotten most recently a SLW from them and have had good luck. Really, I mostly like their feed...flax seed and all sorts of good stuff in there.

I have a question...just got an 8 week old Lab puppy and would like to make a portion of his regular food from eggs. Anyone every done this or have advice/resources? I have experience with puppies but mostly before having fresh eggs :) I previously fed my adult Lab raw eggs as a supplement when I fed dry dog food and mostly fed him fresh food prepared with the family's food.

You can also order from TSC. There is a minimum of 25 and then 5 per breed. You can also pick your ship date if you order early enough {otherwise it's as available}. Seems like every TSC is different, too. If you have several around, you can call and see what they each have. My dd works there, and txts to let me know if I need to go into the store that day.

How do you order? And can you order any breed?

They won't have any info online until we get closer to Chick Days, though. And that's in addition to what they have in the stores. I ordered initially to get the breeds I wanted. And then, of course, I add every year.

When do they typically hold "Chick Days"? I asked in our TSC yesterday and the employees didn't know! I don't know what's going on, but it seems that ever since they rebuilt the TSC in Sanford, NC (the one that was destroyed by the tornado on April 16th, 2011), the folks they have hired are not helpful nor friendly. I'd rather travel 50-100 miles out of my way to go to one of the older ones I used to get things from years ago. I was, however, told I could go online and make an order there and have it delivered to the store in Sanford (??chicks???)...

I think I'll stick with getting my chicks from private owners/breeders here on NC/BYC forum and from a different feed store (Carolina Town & Country) in Sanford that already has had a wide selection of chicks arrive. I purchased 6 SLW 2 weeks ago and had 1 not make it the first night, but during the storm w/o power last weekend, I moved the 5 remaining into the house in the kitchen area next to the den w/ the fireplace and wrapped the brooder in towels to retain warmth for the 18 hours we were w/o power (shed where they were went down to single digits inside). THEY ALL MADE it - even tho the house was NOT warm by any stretch (double layers in comfy clothes and lots of blankies on our bed that night!).

Nice selection of new chicks yesterday at CTC, but I'm getting 4 from another source this afternoon, so can't get any from the store... :)

Depends on the store, but it usually starts in April. When I order through TSC, it goes to the post office. They call me when they get there, and I go pick them up. I've had good luck ordering right from hatcheries, too. Our TSC happens to be *very* good with actually knowledgeable folks there.

The TSC in Vass has a great staff. Folks there are really nice and helpful. They sell out of chicks fast when they get them in though.
