HELLO NC ;> I looked for a "hello smilie face" and there is none.

I guess I should join this crowed offically and I see there are a few close to me. I also live in Garner. I have popped on this NC thread a while back to find a home for a rooster I rescued and I am glad to say he found an excellent home. All the pictures with the babies are killing me. It is an on going chicken fever. I feel I have plenty in my chicken run and I don't want to over crowd my girls but when those baby pics go up it is very very tough. I can anounce I recently had a birthday and was given by my friends, who got me going with this chicken stuff, a pick of a baby from their new crew. So I picked Wilma a 5 to 6 week old White Crested polish top hat. Crazy cute!!!!! She is number 19 and currently in my livingroom in her bin. I will be sticking her under one of my brooding silkies thrusday night to see if she will mother her. I will post a picture soon. Just been busy busy. Well enough rambling I must go back to work. I so enjoy reading all about everyones families(chickens)

All my birds except my grey or self blue frizzle and cochin and my Birthday White Crested Top hat are on my page. I will be gettting the other pictures this weekend. It has been a busy spring start up and by the time I get home it is close to dark. The wait wont disapoint. Wilma is the cutest thing. I work with kids and will be bringing her to work tomorrow. I think I am the one more excited.

LOCKDOWN!!!!!!!

I am a nervous wreck!!!!!!!!!!! <gets up to check thermometer and hygrometer> I'm a little early but both kiddos are napping at the same time which is a small miracle so I decided to go for it - put them in my homemade hatcher at 2:00, scheduled for 7:00. Hope that's ok! Then my entry plan was a bit amiss so it took me longer getting them positioned just right in the hatcher and a lot of the warm air escaped so it was taking FOREVER to get the temp up. I freaked and ran up and got my hairdryer to quickly warm the air temp up. So now the humidity is down a bit of course but I have faith in my froggy humidifier that it will take care of it shortly - already @ 55% and I figured this early in the lockdown game the temp was a much bigger deal. I am not going to be able to go anywhere or do anything for the next 3 days!!!!! Well, I do have 2 kids and have to go pick up my feed so that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but you know what I mean!!! So the final tally that made it into lockdown is 2 Orpingtons, 5 Welsummers, 4 Coronation Sussex, 3 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, and 2 French Black Copper Marans!!!!

On another note I did finally chuck more clear Cochin eggs and emailed the seller at about 11:00 last night. To my shock within minutes I had a PayPal refund in my inbox!!! I was happy, but almost so shocked that it made me a little skeptical - you know what I mean?? I hate to be like that, but it makes me wonder... I did find someone here on BYC that has quite a variety of colors of Cochins so I figured I'll see how these hatches go and maybe try and order from her. We'll see! I'm pretty sure there is only 1 Cochin egg out of 5 left in the bator that stands any kind of chance. However, all 7 of my beautiful blue Ameraucana eggs from MissD'uccle are developing!!!!!

I am very excited! And 2 of the eggs are GIGANTIC!!

<temp holding steady at 100 degrees and humidity now at 58%>

Oh, I've become a crazy person. Now to go set up my brooder!!!!

Don't worry about the temp dropping a bit when you were putting them in, thats fine, as long as it were it should be now. Now remember DO NOT OPEN UNTIL THEY ARE ALL DONE !!!!!

I am sure you have researched hatching to dealth.... be patient...humiidty will increase during hatching and then go back down, so don't panic....Do not open hatcher and keep your nose pressed to the glass......
