I am not sure if anything will eat that gross looking thing. but did want to say that those aren't bumble bees they are wood boring bees, if you look on the butt you'll notice they don't have a stinger and bumble bees do. they bore into wood to lay their eggs and they can do damage it theres alot of them. What kind of truck is bringing your chicks? and how many are you getting to start with?

NH, those wood burrowing bees are called carpenter bees... and they are EVIL! I sit on my back porch swapping them as dead as I can get them, they burrow in and destroy my deck every chance they get. If you find where they are burrowing, you should wait until dusk and wood putty over the hole! Sorry to say it, but that is probably the only thing you can do to get them to stop.

Must agree to kill the carpenter bees, they have destroyed the work bench in my barn.

I have 100s and can't seem to get rid of them...

ETA: p.s. the chickens will not eat that big nasty beetle, they will eat the carpenter bees, if they can catch them, as well as tons of other creepy crawlys.

First off...you are suppose to tell me that the chickens would LOVE to eat that nasty thing... Secondly, WHAT?? Wood boring bees?? What?? <sigh> I've never heard of them, but I guess we're lucky as at the moment there are only 2 of them!! I thought that some wood shaving dropped on me, but the DH laughed and said I was pooped on!!

GRR...they are going DOWN if they like to eat and destroy...

oh NO...my coop is NOT finished yet and I will not have progress stopped/interrupted or otherwise affected!! However all bee/wasp/hornet issues are for the DH to take care of!!

We are getting 7 Buff/Lav Orpingtons that will be 7 weeks old on Friday!! We're getting them from a BYC'er who is making the LONG trek our way to deliver them.

SO nice, huh? I think they secretly want to check on our coop and check us out to make sure we're going to give the sweeties a good home!!

I can't blame him there!!

BHep - you SURE the chickens won't eat that beetle?? What about your ducks?? I would happily send that thing your way to feed the ducks!!

Seriously...it was NASTY...and I was afraid if I killed it...that it would cover the bottom of my shoe with its nastiness. My hardwood floors are hard enough to keep clean without me tracking bug guts all over the place!!

I think I might design a pair of dust mop pants and gloves for the DD so she can crawl around the house and dust it at the same time!!

Good Morning everyone!! The rain/storms did not hit us (not sure if they hit anyone) and I think it's because we caulked all of the joints to the barn last night.
barnie.gif
Figures I would go to all that trouble and not have any rain!! Well...better safe than sorry. Not much building going on the next few days as the DH is swamped at work with a shut down and other "stuff" that he has going on!!
sad.png
I don't even know if I will see him much this week!!

The chickies come on Friday, so I am making a TS run on Thursday to pick up the necessary items for them and then.... Saturday we install doors and windows and

if all goes well some hardware cloth over the eves and in the octagonal "vents". The roof is 7' high, do I need to worry about the birds "perching" up in the rafters??

I canNOT wait!!

NH.... If there is a rafter up there, you can bet someone will try to get up there. BO & LO are heavy so I don't think they will be able to fly up that high, but ya never know.

And NO my ducks won't touch that nasty beetle, I think the shell is too hard or something.

BHep - Thank you for the heads up. I think we are going to put some bird netting up there then....just in case. I'd hate to have a girl fall and get hurt!!
smile.png
Man...will NOTHING eat that atrocious beetle?

Pictures will come soon!! Although more like Friday Evening or Saturday!! I hope you can be patient enough!!
