I can't take them, but I have lots of Facebook friends in Hickory since I'm just a few minutes from there. Does your friend mind if I repost this to my facebook page?

She says "Go for it!!" Thank you!!

DONE! I hope she finds someone to take them. I'm guessing she's already posted on craigslist? Hickory Freecycle doesn't allow pet posting, but Lincoln County does if she wants to join and post them there.

Hello! I am in Gates County. I have 21 chickens right now with plans for more.

Ok...as I mentioned earlier, I live in Stanly County. Do you think my chickens will need a heat lamp for the winter? I didn't use one last year, but maybe they will stay warmer and I will get more eggs if I use a heat lamp at night.
You all know it doesn't get too cold in NC but it does get below freezing a lot of nights. What do you think?

chickenlvr97~~~it's not just the "warmth" of the hens environment, it's mostly the amount of daylight hours. If it's continued or increased egg production you're looking for, you'll have to add a light.

I'm up in the mountains, and my night time lows are already in the upper 30's. With heat light bulbs, I'm able to maintain a temp of about 45.....when the forecast is for really cold weather, I do use supplemental heaters; probably not necessary, but my Silkies are my babies

I've not ever used heat or artificial light for my big girls.(I'm in Mt.Holly) My RedSexies layed all winter long with no problems. Only time the Black Sexies stopped was when they had been attacked by a dog. Personally, I think some chickens take that short break because they need it. Just be sure that you have plenty of natural light year round.

Hey NC Homies! I have a question... Is there anyone in the Charlotte area that has chickens that would sell eggs? I am trying to find a source of good natural eggs for my mom that isn't as expensive as the grocery store (I won't even get into quality control there). She lives in South Charlotte. Besides, I'd rather support a farm than the grocery store manufactured eggs! Yuck!
Anyway, if anybody has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it!!
Thanks!
~Ginny
