Matt- Love your broody house. Hope my young broody is as good a mom as Daisy.

Does she has them stacked tetris style her her?

SCM-- I have a 4 week old smooth black chick that looks to be a pullet.

Off to try and bring the yard under control and get the house ready for the Preakness Party this evening. Need to have a bonfire to get rid of all the branches from the trees that have been blown out with all the weather this past month.

A good Saturday morning everyone!!

Well, not had too much time to post on here recently, what with golf tournament at start of month, and then so much going on at work so I've been in early and coming home late! But a beautiful day here in the big city area, cleaned out Chez Henry yesterday and the Barred Rocks run, so all is smelling sweet with a good layer of PDZ mixed in with the pine shavings.

So sorry to hear about everyone's losses, HT, what was the answer from the place in Cherryville? I buy their pine shavings from our local Feed Store - Neighborhood Tack and Feed in Matthews and have no problems....

So, DW - Allison - has told you all about my other "woman" Goldie, who is one of the Buff Orp hens we hatched out. She is adoreable, comes and waits bythe door for me when I come out to feed and water them. She will sit on my lap and "talk" and "sing" to me. We may be a good candidate for the next Martha Stewart Show.....

Sold one of the Black Silkies (roo) last week to a lady in Monroe. She is a silent user on here and she keeps me updated on him.

Allison won the Watchtower coop in the auction last week, so next Sat morning I set off to the NC/N.GA border (4.5 hours) with 2 stron teenagers and a trailer to go pick it up and bring it home. (Yes it will be an early start).......

I will post pics once it is home, we are planning to moved the Barred Rocks in to it, the Buffs across in to the older run, therefore giving Henry, Sheba and remaining Silkies their original run. Also, the 4 Black and Partridge silkie chicks will be moved in with them. I am so glad I am on staycation the Memorial Day week to get it all done.....

TSC Monroe has it's first swap/sell on 6/4. We will have 2 White Silkie Roos, 2 or 3 of the Buff Orp roos and the 2 Barred Rock chicks going to the sale. Will be there alone as Allison doesn't want to attend.....

It is a good old fashion field trip for adults and kids. Patty lined me up with 2 barred bantam cochins, silkie cochin mix, black cochin frizzle, gray bantam cochin and a gray frizzle cochin from the same parents. By the way they are both shariing a nexting box to brood in. And they both crowl at me when I check for eggs. Bottom line great person, takes care of her pets well and all I have gotten from her have great personalities. Well I will be waiting for stories on your pigeons.

Here is the Standard Broody house.

The house is 2' wide and 5' wide. I have used it for 6 years. It is beat up but still solid, except the door which is hinged at the bottom to be a ramp when open. Those wood pieces on the right cover wire for added darkness. They haven't been taken off in several years. Above that is the hinges for the top that opens for access to the back half where the nest always is. I redid that half of the top last year. I need to refurbish the entire house, but by the time I think of it I need to use it again. When I open the lid(from the otherside) I see this:

That is 7-dust on the sides. After some hard pecks and a few new red spots on my hand I managed to find the previously dead chick. It is a very light Blue. How about those feet? The picture doesn't do them justice. Even the back toe has a few feathers on it, just like it's Daddy. It was peeping and Daisy was about to flip out, so I didn't get anymore pictures of those today.

We set a pen around BigSis and got the babies out for some sun. 7 of the 8 are in the picture.

Daisy will get a pen tomorrow and pushed out for some exercise.

Matt

Great pictures Matt, love the colors and patterns on your chickens[for lack of better terminology] they are very pretty also like your broody house. We use our very first coop made it a duplex and use it for our broody house. Got first time mommie and 3 chicks in there now, and 2nd time mommie and her 1 chick in the other side. Keep the pics coming..

HA! I wish! I just desperately need to get this coop finished!!! I'm hoping it did get my hubby motivated a little. Although he gave me a terrible time because not a single coop we saw was done entirely in hardware cloth like ours. That was by far my biggest battle with him and the most expensive part of our coop so far, so he wasn't happy about that. But, oh well!!! My chickens will be safe!!! We did see some really neat ideas though. It was a lot of fun!
