Sorry I haven't posted in a while, been in lurker mode.

Coop to do list - 1) fix 2nd pop up door so it doesn't get stuck half up. 2) Build and install ramp for door #2. 3) Secure outside egg retrieving doors on Nesting Boxes. 4) Trim out Nesting Boxes 5) Paint

Wooo hooo, it's all easy stuff!

Run to do list - 1) Install second level of fencing on run. 2) Install ceiling net/or something on run. 3) Finish cleaning misc stuff out of run. 4) Drag in big ole branches for run perches.

Hubby is morphing into proud chicken papa. I think one of my Buff Orps is a roo, he is starting to get redder around the comb and wattles though neither are really growing out yet. He also has a more 'observant' nature to him (he's the watchdog of the group). Anyway, the hubby has got the possible roo perching on his forearm and loves the little man (if he is a roo). He wants 1 roo and if there is only 1 that's a roo and he's friendly, then that will be okay.

Today was their first day of having access to the outside world of the partially completed run. They went out around 9:30 or 10 this morning and stayed out until about 9 PM (when we remembered to go out and close up the coop). We checked on them throughout the day, the latest before bedtime check was 7 PM. We turned on the coop light then and when we went out a little while ago, all but 2 were in the coop. The 2 MIA were under the coop and started chirping when Jim went looking around for them. He opend the door of the coop and the two birds came up to him so he could lift them into the coop (though they all seem to know how to use the ramps, but perhaps they got a little lost as it got dark. I am happy though, the hubby is starting to seem to enjoy the birds, he is an animal lover though so that shouldn't surprise me.

I plan to pick up a new camera sometime this week, so I'll get pictures soon. Yes, it's his father's day gift. ;p

Well... candled the last eggs left from this weekends hatch, tossed them, cleaned the hatcher and put in another batch due Thrus.

I have 5 broodies and 1 more trying, I took her right off the nest. I think I will start slowing down for the summer. I have a bunch of babies to grow out, sell most, keep some. It is too hot and frequent storms shutting power down. I have even said I will shut the Big Dickey down

I will just have the Brinsea. I think I can do it !!!!!

I will admit, the guy at Lowes cut the plywood. But I had to re-cut some and I cut the rest of the pieces. It came out GREAT! Now that my arm is broke from patting myself on the back, I can't take a picture because I am out of batteries

Our BOs and brahmas are two weeks apart in age. They went out to the coop together with no problems other than getting them back into the coop at dusk. I put a light in the coop and turn it on about an hour before sundown as was suggested to me.

I have been watching the suspected roos to see who does what. By far of the two suspect BO roos there is one that has taken charge of the BO group. The dominate brahma just isn't interested it seems.

The BO gets them all in at dusk now, is not very friendly but OTOH the orps were in the brooder the least amount of time before going outside. But the lead BO is always interested in what I am doing when I am in the run.

As badly as I wanted a brahma roo, I will probably end up building another coop and separating the BOs from the brahmas.

And so it begins....

You have puppies for sale? Breed?

Dave

I do, well my boyfriend Hunter does. They are chocolate labrador retrievers. They are English bred so they have a much blockier head and body than ur typical labs. Interested send me a PM and I can send photos and more info.

My new babies so far!! I have 4 buff laced polish, 1 golden laced polish, 1 splash orpington x polish, and 1 orpington x polish (not sure on color yet)

I'm with ya Beth, I have a few of this and a few of that and thinking of shutting down the Sportsman & Cabinet hatcher and going back to the Brinsea for the summer.

I now have plenty to grow out and cull thru. Actually taking 10 to the sale this Thursday, that should relieve some space!

Too bad you can't find more homes for roosters, I have some really nice ones.
