You are not being a downer! You need friends, and that's what we're here for! Your friend is still in my thoughts and prayers. I am glad you came back to update, and that there is something in good to report. All is not well of course, but there is hope.

That is a nice list! I'm drooling thinking about it!

Too bad I can barely build room for what I have waiting for more space, let alone adding to it! HAHAHAHA

SecretQuail....thoughts and prayers. I have an uncle four years older, my big brother, has a neuro disorder, it's tough.

To the new folks:welcome.

Took the gang out for their first field trip this evening. The pen was set up over a patch of clover three weeks ago, you know where that went

. So they were looking so miserable and bored, and had been such troopers during this week's heat, that I just had to let them out for a while. They had tried so hard to get to the clover, ok I am a softy or a chicken enabler. Call me what you want. But they ate well, no need to run the weed eater around the pen now, got bugs in places I didn't know was possible AND seasoned rice, peas and squash from our garden off of my supper plate. I thought that I would have to roll them back into the pen. The cool part....lights out at 8:30. Just like normal.

Had one altercation between the 7 week brahma cockeral and Commander Orp. That was interesting and educational. The little Brahma's hackles were raised and he was mad!! No flogging or blood but none the less a confrontation. Time to start thinking about roo quarters.

Have been thinking about separation of the herd. Found another 10x10 kennel on CL this morning. Contacted the person and went there after work. Amazingly, the person is about a mile down our road. The kennel was damaged by the tornado back in April but a little heat and effort will straighten it out right. But.......

Got up close and personal with a Royal Palm(?) turkey. Oh my, that guy was huge. Got my wheels spinning. Convinced DW that she needed to go with me to get the kennel. No ulterior motive at all. Just to admire the wonderful birds. Hehe.

That is a great list, I would be very interested in some of those, But I still don't know what's getting in

I have wired around the outside and I even put rocks all along the coop inside. What ever it is, is still getting and is to smart for a trap

Allabout, I haven't tested this yet, but after doing a bunch of research on coops here I did a hardware cloth apron (18") around the entire coop to hopefully prevent digging predators. You could do a seach to see some examples. Hope something works for you soon!!!
