Going ok so far. Having to chase them around a bit with food and water to make sure they're getting some. Keeping to themselves for the most part and there is some bullying going on. Got a good bit to do still before night. So hard getting stuff done with a newly 2 year old and 7 month old underfoot!!! Going a little bonkers! But I think it'll be safe! More details tonight. I am sorry you ended up losing a few that were shipped.

Should I confess that I really 't fdon't FEEL like making these cakes?? It's just too HOT to have my oven on for 2 hours for each cake...I only managed to get one baked before I realized I didn't have enough eggs (oh darn, the chickens aren't laying yet...guess I can't continue). Tomorrow I will be driving out to pick up some feed from Raleigh/Cary area,

so of course I can't work on it tomorrow.

How long can I get away with stalling??

OOhh...I heard the cutest thing today...Jeremy was getting a treat of some corn, and he chased all the boys away from it, called the girls over and let them eat from his "stash"...

What a SWEETIE!! I sure hope I don't favor my children the way I favor my chickens!!

If so, no one tell them!!

Sooooooo.....apparently Black Widows are VERY smart. DH went out yesterday to either relocate her or kill her and she saw him coming and crawled into a part of the rafter that he couldn't reach. Then he went back late last night as we were putting the "kids" to bed and she evaded his efforts to trap & dispose of. I am thinking a spray bottle filled with cayenne pepper and a touch of water is in store for tonight!! On a funny note, I went out there to see if I could provide moral support...you know standing on the other side of the yard by the garden while he was 2 acres away at the barn!! Well, when we finally came inside, I felt something crawling on me. Talk about FREAKING out!!

I was quietly screaming (the DD was asleep) SPIDER, get it off, get it off!!

Turns out it was a grasshopper!! TOO FUNNY!! Today I get to pick up feed from Reedy Fork Farms...kind of excited to see how the gang likes it. I took their advice and I will begin to slowly mix the layer feed into the starter feed, as my girls should be at POL next month!!

Now if only I could find enough time to drive the 45 mins - 1 hour trip (one way), get added groceries to finish the cakes (eggs anyone?? oops) and bake, torte, crumb frost the cakes.... all before church tonight.... <sigh> how I need more hours in the day.

Ruthann, Grasshoppers are chickens delight! if you could let them free range while you were watching them they would take care of them grasshoppers for ya, sorry about the night mares I couldn't resist. And I can imagine how hot it is where ya'll are it's very hot here in the mountains. Hope everyone has a great day. And Beth haven't you ever heard of Pheasant Under Glass before, course I never have been able to figure out why any one would want to put one under glass in the first place.
