Greenacres - Thank you for those links!! I will be praying for your RIR girl!!

I desperately need some prayers today!! I had my first ever chicken escape!! I opened up the coop this morning and everyone was accounted for. Two hours later, somehow they managed to get the barn doors open and they ALL were out in the woods (where the predators lie in wait)!!

I am so nervous!! I got most of them back by shaking my treat can...but there are still about 6 (out of my 11) in the woods that are ignoring me. DD is sleeping, the monitor doesn't go that far into the woods, the woods is filled with poison ivy - and predators - so I just don't know what to do!! I KNEW this would happen and we had planned to put the "locks" on the second set of doors this weekend...it WILL get done, I am just hoping/praying that we don't lose any!! SO WORRIED...

Edited to say: ALL chickens are back home and accounted for!!

I took the monitor out as far as it could go, turned it up on LOUD and went scampering through the woods. All but 3 let me pick them up and reunite them with the flock...the 3 that didn't are still relatively new to me and therefore, I am still a big scary monster to them!!

Still...it took a good 30 minutes but DD slept through it all and I was able to get them all home safe and sound!! Glad I was able to get to them before the heat of the day set in (although it's already terrible out there) and any predators picked them off!!

That's enough excitement for my day!! Waiting to go pick up feed, hoping I don't get lost and then...then DD and I are going to enjoy one of the greatest inventions ever: AC!!

It's going to be another scorcher, so try and stay cool everyone!!

NH..... Glad to hear everyone is home safe and sound.

Going to be another hot one....Should cool down by the end of the week. I have been bringing out milk jugs of ice for the birds. They love it. Plus handing out frozen watermelon and zucchini. Moslty they are digging trenches under the shrubs and grapevines to keep cool.

We have a fourth peachick hatching today..... with 16 more in the incubator.

Spending the day inside....thankful for central AC.

Love the little clause in there "it is illegal to sell raw milk in North Carolina for human consumption, this is for pet food only"!!

DH asked me how they can regulate it, I mean after you buy it, it's yours...so how can the state/gov't or whatever yell at the seller or buyer?
hu.gif
We did find a local co-op that we are thinking of joining that would allow us the benefit of buying raw milk without having to have a goat ourselves!! Still doing a lot of research, especially since there is no guarantee that DD won't be allergic to this milk either!! For $600 we could have a blood test, but the blood test isn't even 75% accurate and offers false positives and negatives - meaning she could "register" as being allergic to something that is completely fine with her and could also register as being capable of ingesting something that causes her great distress!! I looked at the doctor and said WHY would I want to burn $600 for this test then?? I could think of a lot of things I'd rather "waste" that large sum of money on...

like a goat or something!!

That other story....well that story made me sad.

how horrible to be the one to find that!! My heart goes out to them!! I have even been looking on and checking my lot quite frequently just because!!

SCM - If you're out there today, I thought of you. I went and picked up my feed. This time I didn't get lost!! Okay, well I did get lost, but that's only on the way home!!

I really really HATE North Carolina's beltway - if you're not from NC or familiar with the stupid beltway, you might agree with me, unless you have an incredible ability to navigate yourself well and in that case...I am jealous. You drive one way - say west (like I did) and you would think that to get home you would simply have to drive the opposite way - say east (like I did)...only the opposite way isn't east, for some reason it's north and south and you have to figure out whether you came west and north or west and south - the signs are TERRIBLY marked!!

Needless to say after driving in a circle for 30 minutes and FINALLY finding my way...I hope I don't have to go out that way for a VERY LONG time...like at least a month or so!!

I do like Bhep's idea of frozen veggies...I might have to try that!! As for some new hatchings...
