Yep, upper respiratory(sinus) infection. I would make sure the coop is clean with plenty of ventilation. The ammonia smell from poop can irritate it and make it worse.

Matt

Atleast I know it is still that. We have a wire floor and vents all along the top of the coop for ventilation. I rake the poop out from under the coop daily. What else should I be doing? I hate seeing my girls sick

Well I got some good news this morning!

A sweet friend of mine is going on vacation with her mom and kids to one of their time shares. Unfortunately for them they have a meeting back in town on 8/31 and can only stay for 2 days of their time. They said after everything we've been through in the last 2 years (and there was a lot) especially with my recent sickness they want us to take the time share from Wednesday through Saturday, totally paid for! It happens to be the week my MIL is coming to visit so my husband already got his vacation days in for that week, and I just need to find someone to work for me Friday & Saturday and we're good to go!!!!

We've never had a family vacation other then an over night stay at the beach for my 30th birthday. (I'm not saying when that was! LOL) So this is huge, I'm in tears with how unbelievably HUGE this gift is, and what it means to us.

Yeah, I know... it's over kill! I was just mad and thinking big. I don't think I could handle one truly... it's going to have to be something small.

Hope you enjoy that vacation and what a WONDERFUL gift from a friend/neighbor. Things seem to work out in the end

As for criiter control, although I do have a 22 and will use it if needed, I am a fairly good shot, we prefer to use a CO2 pellet pistol. It works well on snakes and other critters within a fair range and although most times it would not kill a dog it will leave a stinging message in the haunches and encourage that dog to move elsewhere.

You could handle a 22! It's just one step above a BB gun! It's the range that is so often misunderstood. A shotgun load spreads out, usually point n shoot at close range. Where as the single bullet from a 22 that can at close range pass through and keep going, or miss and be a loose cannon. There is no overkill in thinking, I think grenades would be good for any enemy taking my kids! I just don't let myself purchase them. Lol
Electric fences are also super good for dogs!!!

**Matt your snake snare idea is awesome!!!! I saw a ton of juvenile snakes this spring. They will find my chickens soon enough! But now I'll find them first! And i love to catch me some snakes! They have always been my cloud for the ladies. I even named a ball python Berry, because the girl who despised him was Holly, just fit so well.

Have a great day all!

Thanks everyone, I just felt like a load was taken off of me... and moment of peace is really going to be possible. Totally giddy about it!!!

Greens, I have a bb gun. Sometimes I can't pump that danged thing in time the evil chicken attacker is gone before I send out a warning. Hubby wants to go ahead and put up a chain link fence with gate all around the coops and runs now. We're going to start searching craigslist this week, as we're kinda broke. To add to that hubby got pulled at a check point last night and the registration expired before I could get the paperwork out. Darn it! So we're hoping it gets dropped because he's supposed to goto court the week we're supposed to be at the time share, and I don't have $215 to pay out to the courts over something so silly. It was inspected on time, and the taxes were up to date I was just a couple weeks short and filing the registeration on that vehicle. I'm having a hard time catching this break!
