Ruthann- I pray that lizzie gets better, did your vet do blood work? Maybe she licked or ate something toxic? Did he at least take an Xray because not all blockages will make the stomach bloat. She could have a piece of plastic caught in her throat and like a hairball she is trying to hack it up. I hope she feels better soon!

On another sad pet note, I think my golden retriever has thyroid cancer, he most defintely has cataracs. I'm at a loss here and need some advice: 1) if I take him to the vet and get him tested there is no way I can afford treat meant so I'd put him down. Or 2) just let him be, don't test him because there is nothing I can do anyway and let him live life at home(as long as he is comfortable)

I hate when pets are sick... If it helps any I have/had a cat (still with my parents) that I had since I was 4 yrs old. I am 24 now. This cat had what sounds like a similar issue throughout his life and the doctors told us the same thing. If the throwing up isnt constant let it just run its course. Thats what we did with my cat and he is still running around an old man around my parents house.

Ruthann, Praying for Lizzie, I agree with wilddriverswolf....maybe an X-ray. That should be semi- affordable and it should show something!??

wilddriverswolf.....how old is your Golden? You said he has cataracts so I would assume he is an older guy. IF he has cancer, "I" would keep him home as comfortable as possible. There is no guarantee on any treatment for cancers.

Prayers sent for him too.

Well more sad news here too......... Lost ANOTHER Polish rooster. My OLNY white crested black rooster.

Here one minute, gone the next. So looks like I have a predator.

Lost 3 Guineas a few days back, my kids "locked up" but did not secure the Guineas coop. Now I need to figure out what kind of predator. I am thinking an air predator. I seriously doubt my dogs, Guineas or Geese will let any other land/ day time predator pass through. And the polish stay close to the barn. Time to build MORE coops OR fence in a chicken yard and cover the top with vineyard netting.

Hi Em.

Pretty girl Ally !

You never know..Our cat had an incident like this a while back and slowly overcame it, though I was sure she wouldn't make it. In the end, I believe she had eaten a poisonous plant..Stay positive!

Beth- so sorry about your polish and guineas.
My golden is 10years old and as you can see in my avatar still quite happy! I think I'll just leave him be and keep him comfy as long as he doesn't suffer.

I'm building him a ramp since he is now having a hard time getting up and downstairs! The years just fly by to quickly. All I can do is leave it to God. Thanks for the prayer.

Hope everyone eles has a better day!

NH I am so sorry about your kitty. My cat, now a ripe ol' 18, did that once and I paid for the exploratory throat surgery. It turned out that she had eaten something, such as a bird bone, which had scratched up the inside of her throat. The irritation of the scratches made her feel as if the bone fragment was still stuck in her throat which made her throw up. Hopefully it's just something simple like that for your Lizzy!

WRW: with our animals, as much as they are part of our family, we do the same thing you do. As long as they are comfortable and happy, we don't opt for expensive surgery that may or may not really change things in the long run. Now, I have friends that drove their golden to MSUs campus several times a week for chemotherapy treatment when she developed cancer at the age of 9. She was their only "child" and they had plenty of money to support her treatment. More power to the folks who can. I wish I were headed to Morganton, good luck finding a ride.

Beth: so sorry to hear about your Polish roo. Any ideas what got him? How about a nice D'Uccles roo to replace him??

Ally: Too true! I hope everything goes well for her. She does have a really good group of kids and there should be plenty for them to do. Hopefully everyone has a great time!

Question, do you think it would be okay to move my 7 week old D'Uccles chicks out of the garage and into a coop this week? They are starting to get a bit cramped in their brooder and I'd love to give them some space outside with the others. It's supposed to get down in the 50s so I wasn't sure. They have been without a heat lamp for several weeks but it hasn't gotten below 60 in the garage where they are.
