I just got a surprise!!! I decided to candle my broody's 3 eggs tonight now that they should have been 1 week along. Remember the awesome guys at Sumner-Byrd Farm stole them from a broody for me.
Weeelllllll, those suckers are AT LEAST 14 days along!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, 2 of them - 1 is clear. But YIKES!
I am not mentally prepared for chicks yet!!! Or physically prepared with chick starter and whatnot!!! I'm excited though!!!
Hi Y'all from Wilmington...in the city limits with 9 2 week olds in the bathroom and almost ready to go out into their new coop and yard. Originally from San Diego...do not miss the expense, traffic, frantic life or cold Pacific ocean of California. NC has everything CA does except the deserts. Plus the people have time to stop and talk....LOVE NC!! My girlfriend moved here from Seattle one year ago and is blown away with the beauty of the landscape...and she is originally from Santa Barbara, CA.
Just like you being in NC totally blew my mind! I'm originally from outside of Hartford CT. Don't think I'll ever leave! I like being between the ocean and the mountains. I can take a weekend trip wherever I want and come back home the next day.
Hope you come back to share pics of your little girls!!!
Ever have one of those mornings when you sit down to do something real quick and before you notice half the morning has passed by already?? If not, I had one of those mornings. Been up since 3am, and was doing some winter cleaning upstairs so as to not disturb anyone...when a knock at the door just about sent me into labor....or scared me to death - one of the two!!
Turns out I had been "spring" cleaning for 3 hours and didn't notice DH get up and was about ready to leave for work. OOPS!! Oh well.
If you happen to think of us, say an extra prayer, keep your fingers crossed, whatever....the repair guys are coming out to look at the tiller and see if it can be fixed. We're
praying that it will all be covered under warranty ... I mean we've only had it a MONTH. DH said if they plan to charge us to fix it, I am to tell them to just take it back to the store and refund us our money...it pays to have a satisfaction guarantee!! I don't know if I could be that "mean" though!! Spent all of yesterday cutting out my SIL's quilt while the chickens enjoyed roaming the yard...Good thing our "neighbor" wasn't home because I did notice they were on his property line (since he's 1/4 mile away...I'm not sure if he'd have noticed, but still). For those of you wanting to learn to quilt...do yourself a favor and NEVER EVER EVER chose a design that requires you to cut 2" squares...especially when you are to cut ~80 of them and then turn around and cut 2.5x4.5" rectangles. Talk about tiring!! UGH, I need a vacation!!
Can't wait to hear the final results from BHep's count....by the way BHep...what do you DO with all those "exotic" ones like the peacocks and such??
DH says that by the time the chickens are old enough to come our way...he'll be ready for them!!
I am SUPER excited and I don't even know what they look like!!
Hmm....maybe we should work out something where a duck or two "accidentally" get thrown in the mix?!?
I am SURE I could convince DH that they are just "exotic" chickens!!
VFem - we're praying for your DH to get the job!! I know he's a hard worker and that will be rewarded...someday, someone will notice just how hard he works!!
SCM -
I am so excited for you!! I am still jealous that you ended up with a broody before me
but at least things are going well!!
Can't wait for little chickies and photos!!
Well...I am off to do more sewing before the repair men show up....got to love the time window - sometime between 1 & 5...I am guessing 4:45 -
Well...plenty of time to get supper prepped and some sewing done!! Have a great day everyone!!
Just bathed our Silkie for the show tomorrow...... Can't get all of the dirt brown out of her crest though, but we will see. She is now under the heat lamp in a brooder box for the rest of the day to dry and fluff herself! then the baby powder on her butt once dry to stop her poop from sticking!
