Sorry I've been CRAZY busy the last couple of days. Trying to get things done around here since I have hubby, and I don't want him getting off schedule or lazy.

I'm feeling much better, just getting tired here and there because of whatever is ailing me. I need to call my dr and inform them I can't do the blood tests this week and we'll have to reschedule that whole mess for when we have insurance again, so I need a few more months to get things straight around here.

Haven't heard back about that job for hubby, we hoping to hear from them by Friday... so fingers still crossed, but off to go apply to more jobs anyways.

Later all!

Greens - I am sorry, I didn't mean to tempt you.

I was just so excited to be making progress, I HAD to share!! I will keep the fact that I am making breadsticks right now as I type to myself so I don't further tempt you! My BBQ isn't anything to get excited about anyway...it takes 3 days to complete (so not a quick meal) and I can't speak on taste as I do not eat pork....although I have been craving bacon with this pregnancy!!
hu.gif
The recipe I am trying to make (also not a "quick recipe") is for buttered rolls that I was hoping to test out for Thanksgiving and then when my daddy visits (assuming Thanksgiving was a hit) make them for him, just like his "G'G" would make them. I found the recipe stuffed away in my grandmother's china that I took out to dust and was quite surprised. So...do you think back fat and lard are the same thing??

Ally - Thank you for the heads up. I am not sure I know quite where Piggly Wiggley is, but I do know that my in-laws would have to pass it...haha, maybe I could make them stop and pick some up as they're heading this way!!
lau.gif
I ordered some pig back fat from our local co-op, so we'll see if it's the same thing as lard...I sure hope it comes with instructions on how to use it!!

I know you are going through a lot, but you are a strong lady and I know things will turn around for you...eventually!!

Praying for good news from the doctors when you are able to go!! Keep us posted on DH's job hunt...what is he looking at doing? My DH says that at his locale there are LOTS being hired....PM me if you are interested in the details - again, not sure how far it would be for you though!!

In Honor of Veterans Day tomorrow: 11/11/11 I want to personally THANK each and every one of you that is/was/has been in the US Military's many branches as well as any family member who had to stand by and be left behind while their loved one went away!! Thank you for your service, your sacrifice and your bravery!! "A veteran is someone who, at one point in his/her life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.'" ~Author Unknown - I can't say it any better than that, but I will say THANK YOU again!! A special thank you to my grandfather in law (Army) who served in WWII, my daddy (USN) who served in Korea and my brother (USMC) who served in the Iraq Gulf War/Situation!!

Okay, not really. I can't say for sure whether or not you passed us...I can say for certain, you didn't pass our house!!
gig.gif
we live 1 mile off of the road down a dirt "path" hidden in the woods, so I suppose I will forgive you for not knowing!!

See, now we MUST have a get together at my house!! I just finished making a big batch of home-made BBQ sauce because DH told our company that's visiting this weekend that I would have BBQ Ribs (and chicken) for them...nothing like advertising my most involved meal!! As if I needed ONE more thing on my plate. Still...

the house smells like BBQ sauce and I LOVE

BBQ sauce. Tomorrow the house should smell like sugar cookies!!

Side question for all the farmers out there: Does anyone know if pig back fat is the same as lard?!? I have an OLD OLD recipe (it's my great great grandmother's recipe) that calls for pig back fat and since I don't have any pigs handy to scrape the fat off of (
lau.gif
sorry) so I was wondering if I went to the store (or the butcher) if I could find it. I know real lard (not fake Crisco stuff) is similar in texture to shortening...would back fat be the same?? I am SO trying to master this recipe!!
lau.gif

Lard is rendered fat.. Fat back in the hard fat usually with skin. I don't know how you would use fat back except to melt it down and wouldn't that make it lard

Fat back is great for beans. A big pot of soup beans or green beans cooked with a hunk of fat back. A cast iron pan of corn bread and you are sent to redneck heaven. I miss Granny's cooking.
