Good Evening folks!! Busy day on the farm here!! Ducks were LOVING the muddy excuse for a run and the youngsters were just as mischievous!! My handsome drake Cadbury followed me around tonight and I had NO problem getting him locked up for the night...his girls, well that's another story!! LOL. Our chicks are getting bigger by the day and I am excited to see what they will look like when they are grown!!

On the home front: spent the day baking for hubby's work. He promised them a bunch of goodies and I just let time slip away from me and I am SO far behind. I made the batter and cakes for the Petit Fours (I will frost them first thing in the AM), I made two batches of "Puppy Chow", 10 pounds of fudge, a dozen or so cookies and a complete FAILURE of a supper (don't ask me what happened...I STILL don't know. I was making Pasta Lentil soup and well...my lentils never softened - they were rock hard!! BOOO). Tomorrow is Oreo Truffles and Buckeyes and anything else that requires dipping/drying! I am SO thankful we have that HUGE freezer because I can throw cakes in and 10 minutes later they will be ready (when the frosting is) to dunk and dry! If anyone wants to stop by tomorrow to help, I can ALWAYS use taste testers (or an extra set of ADULT hands)!! LOL

Have a fabulous evening everyone!! I'm almost afraid to say it, but I'd rather hope this weather stays. IF for some reason we get a huge snowfall next week, I want you to know that it is MY DH's fault!! His family is visiting from Wisconsin and the last time they visited, we had a 12" snowfall...so be warned!!

I don't mind a few inches that is gone in a day or 2 but let's not ask for 12 inches

I miss having children in the house this time
of year........they make the season energetic.
Thank goodness the grandbabies are close
but it's not quite the same......kids get so excited
about the season that it's infectious.

Hope your day is a good one

Good Morning, Wednesday People!

Well, the new part on the furnace got installed. He will be back today though. He had trouble with the wiring to the thermostat, he said, and we could tell after he left...the thermostat won't shut off the furnace. We had to throw the breaker to shut it off. This motor is a new type and the wiring is different. But he'll get it taken care of. He always gets it all done.

I moved many of of the older chicks into the next pen last night. I ddn't get them all, though. I got tired of bending into the lighted area, then going upright into the dark. It does weird things to your brain, doing that! Plus, one of the silly "guard turkeys" took exception to me getting close to her and just exploded off the perch, knocking chicks everywhere. She went out the door, over the fence into the garden, and I don't know where from there. Stupid bird. I'll get the rest of the older chicks moved today.

They were really funny, though. The first half were easy. They've learned about crack...I mean, scratch....so they came to the door and I didn't have to go in after them. But the others had started to get wise so either wouldn't come to the scratch or would run when I bent over. There's less than a dozen left in there though, so I'll get them this evening. (I'll get you, my pretties! hehehehe)

I candled eggs last night. I have some I "borrowed" from Beth (I'll return them when I'm done using them to test the incubator) and some I got mailed to me in a swap. All of Beths are growing. Most of the mailed ones are, too! And I've got more coming in the mail soon; they were mailed Monday. Egg hatching is addictive! Someone on BYC, I can't remember who, has a tag line that says, "Chickens used to be cheap entertainment. Then I bought an incubator." So wise!

Back to work! Have a wonderful sunny day, everyone!

I'm sad you have to work (if only we could not work and STILL get paid...lol, like celebrities)!! I could definitely use some taste testing and just some fun company!! LOL. Maybe next year!!

As for snow...I am NOT responsible for anything that may happen...it's DH's fault...they're HIS family!! LOL

I have ALL of the fudge divided up and packed to hand out to friends, along with a jar of cinnamon butter. DH almost KILLED me when I suggested putting together a little baggie of Puppy Chow and buckeyes/truffles. Apparently he has already set claim to ALL of them for his "work". un huh!! We all know they will sit on his desk and mysteriously disappear one by one and next month when his work clothes don't fit just right it will be MY fault!! MEN!! LOL.

I love mine!! Although I don't know how you ladies with husbands on the night shift do it. With him "home" during the day, I want to talk to him, cuddle (okay, pass the kids off to him)....and the poor man is trying to get a few hours of shut eye!! I just don't know HOW you do it!! Not to mention keeping the kids "quiet" when there is Christmas music and games to play and books to read, a cat to terrorize (hey, she has stripped my tree AND keeps getting into my butter, she deserves IT...lol).

All is well on the chicken front!! DH has been letting them out at 7am when he gets home and they are LOVING it...I usually wait until all the kids are up, so it's closer to 8 or 9 before they are set free. All the ducks are getting along and I couldn't be happier with Cadbury and his "gang"....except the older girls are proving to be a challenge locking up at night...boo!! Mama cochin is STILL staying close by the chickie pen, I wonder if she will attack or adopt them when they are big enough to move into the coop?!? No eggs from my POL hens, but I am anxious to see what will come this spring!! I will be sure to keep them locked up for a few weeks once the weather and light prove it's spring!! One of my poor hens (not sure what she is...LOL, OE I think) is getting beaten up by the guineas. BAD GUINEAS!!

Well, babies are waking up, so have a great day everyone. I'm off to make frosting and more goodies!!
