Good Morning, Happy People!

I went out at dusk to lock up the chickens, and remembered that the young ones that I moved the day before had never done "go to bed at dusk" before. They'd always had lights!

So instead of moving indoors and going to bed, they were moving outdoors to follow the remaining light!

I had a heck of a time moving nearly 50 of the little buggers back in, especially since my presence made them want to follow me, hoping for scratch. It's hard to herd chickens when they want to be under your feet, looking up at you hopefully!

The furnace did not get fixed yesterday.

Furnace guy said he wants to research the wiring, since this motor is a different brand than the old one and the wiring is different. He'll be back today.

The new bedroom set finally gets delivered today.

Then I can get my house put back together.

I've got boxes and stuff everywhere, since that room had to be emptied for this. I'll have a day...the kids and a guest come tomorrow!

Enjoy the day, everyone! CSB...the end is near! Hang in there!

See, that's what happens when you buy poor quality stuff!

It expodes on you!

Good thing our dog furniture is leather so it won't do that.

Besides, I think it only explodes around those Harlequin doggies.

Gotta admire whoever took that picture. That took some calm that I would nothave had under those circumstances!
Have to share a Harlequin story. When I lived in Miami, eons ago, I drove a van and had a 5 year old daughter. One day we went to shopping center and as I opened the van door to let my daughter out, a large blur dodged past me and into the back of the van. It was one of those older conversion vans with a bed in the back (this was in the 70's and we actually lived in it for a few months traveling across country...but I digress!) I opened the side door and lying there on the bed was this massive Harlequin. He was beautiful and I asked him if I could see his collar without him biting me. He just looked at me with those fluid eyes and wagged his huge rope tail. I got his vet info off his tag and called the vet who contacted the owner, who met me at the shopping center and retrieved her dog from my van. She said he just loves to ride, suppose he seized the opportunity! That was my first experience with this gentle giant breed!
Hope everyone has an awesome day...weatherman said the "S" word (makes me not happy) for tonight and I have to work today. Went to check my buffs when I got home last night and the roo and one of the hens are sleeping in a corner under the roost??? They have gotten quite large and we had to raise the top of the run as we didn't build it high enough, I didn't know they were going to be this big. I wonder if the roost could be too high. I closed the vent up by the roost so I don't think it is cold up there and 3 girls are sleeping on the roost. Oh well something to investigate.
Have a great day all!

Good morning all! I just got my 3 oldest children off to school and I'm sitting with my coffee reading up on my newest obsession - chickens! Just wanted to say "hi" from Raleigh

We are the first ones in our neighbourhood to have chicks. Friends are fascinated and are coming by to meet them. 1.5 days of school left and then the kids are done for 13 days. Have a great day!

While taking care of the 'babies' this morning, my BO roo is limping, I mentioned he wasn't on the roost last night, his foot is really swollen. Like a large swelling on the bottom at the back of his foot. Perhaps that is why he wasn't on the roost. I don't know anything about what may have happened, could it be bumble foot? It looks soft and the same color as the rest of his foot. I have to run to work right now so I can't do anything with him, bless his heart. I may be able to catch him tonight when I get home. Any suggestions??

The first thing to look for is any breaks in the skin on the bottom of the foot and any scabs or plugs. A scab/plug will be bumble foot. Once you have examined the foot thoroughly you will be able to get advice on how to proceed.

he might have broke it, one of mine did it this spring and I am now always doing bumble foot on him. The one leg it twice the size of his good leg. I dont have the heart to put him down as he seems happy and moves around alot, granted with a limp. Good luck.

Good afternoon everyone. Not much going on down on this farm here. Chicks are chirping, ducks are "nesting" on the deck and chickens are wandering around aimlessly (unless DD opens the door just to be cruel!!). I am a tad bit jealous of my husband's family as they are in for a blizzard this weekend, so they are guaranteed a WHITE Christmas!! This however, makes me nervous as his parents and sister were suppose to be joining us for Christmas and I went through all the trouble of buying a cow and stuffing our freezer for this visit (okay, not really, but I just wanted to blame them for my freezer being full...already). I hope if any of you have family up north, they are safe!! So far the snow accumulation in Wisconsin is already a foot and still coming down, power outages are starting to hit the area and people are hunkering down!! Glad my chicks and other critters are down here, safe!! Have a great evening everyone!!
