OK guys, I have to brag about my brave guy...

He is 6 months old, his father is my Dark Brahma rooster (huge) and his mother is one of my Buff Orps. He is pretty big - 11lb and very sweet towards humans, but a little too rough on the hens, to the point that I had decided to take him to frezer camp.

Two days ago, I let the flock out close to the woods, while doing some chores nearby. All of a sudden, I hear my cockerel growling and running towards the woods, his hackle feathers up, looking like a deranged wild thing. I was puzzled - why was he doing that - until I see this fox running for his life!!! Awesome guy! He just won a reprieve - I just hope he stops being so rough with some of the hens...

That's awesome! We have a hen that if our dogs get to close to the flock she chases them around the yard till they are far away from the others. We the dogs it's hilarious. I didn't know chickens could get protective like that.

We bought 24 straight run chicks at the Carolina Chickenstock back in September. This was our first time raising chicks, and it has been fun. They all survived and are now going on four months old. We were sold 14 RIR and 10 Barred Rocks, but two of the Rocks turned out to be black Sexlink pullets. Sexing the RIR's has been obvious, but the Barred Rocks are a little more difficult. A few have started crowing, but no other obvious clues have appeared. I guess I'll wait until the eggs show up. Anyway, out of the 14 RIR's, I have 6 cockrels that I would like to trade for pullets of approximately the same age. We are in the Lincolnton area if anyone is interested. I will be posting pictures later today. These guys have been babied and are fairly docile.

Thank you soooooo much NH. Eggs and green mango tea are about the only things i have been able to stomach. But i love ginger and peppermint so i'm off to make some tea with that. I hate meds too, so i am gonna try all you suggested before i resort to the OB.
:hugs thank you

If it weren't for Big Red chewing gum and sour candy, I don't know what I'd have done when I was preggo with my two kiddos. Good luck to you!!!
