Had a great visit with Beth!!

Even moreso because she told me that my 3 "possible" roosters are looking more like hens - they are 4-6 months old (somewhere in there...I forgot...pregnancy amnesia!!

) but they all have rounded tail feathers!!

That would mean IF they ARE girls...we have 3 hens, 3 POL hens and 3 that would be POL March/April and 14/15 that would be POL April/May!! WOOOHOOOO!! I like visits where the chicken news is positive!!

Now...what to do with ALL these possible eggs?!?

A good problem to have!!

Have a great afternoon everyone!!

Yes, we are just raising chickens for their eggs :) I don't think our neighbors would appreciate the wake up call in downtown Charlotte.

Ha! You would be surprised! We are in SouthEast Charlotte and our neighbors have told us the crowing was enjoyable to hear! Personally, I - myself - did not enjoy being woken at 5am, but I guess each to their own! Good luck with your new chickens!

I kind of lucked out. One street over a gentleman has lots and lots of roosters (like 100). So no one complains about my one rooster. Now the guineas are another story, they are just loud and silly.

To vaccinate or not to vaccinate? Again, we are newbees here and I find navigating through the BYC forums a little intimidating, so I thought I would throw out the question on this thread. We are purchasing 'chicks' from a local vendor 'Poppy's Peeps' and they do not vaccinate and uses all natural methods for worming. How do you usually take general care of your animals if you have a small flock? We are going to start with 4-5 and will not go beyond 10 hens.

Laughing my butt off at this post below.
If you get SLW hatched, can I buy some pullets?? My son is starting our coop in 2 more weeks! I am so excited.
Hello, I'm Ashley, and I'm a Hatchoholic.  Despite my late-season hatching comments last year that might give you some impression that I was "burned out," or that I "might take next hatching season off," many months have passed. I now stalk my Swedish Flower Hens for fertile eggs.  I have ravaged the internet for quality Silver Laced Wyandotte hatching eggs and taken part in an Ebay auction until the last minute.  I then emailed the owner to ensure that they know the winner of the auction. I bugged my husband to bring my incubating stuff down from the attic.  I spent way too much time today sanitizing and organizing my incubator. I already have it running to make sure it is ready to set said eggs on Thursday.  God save anyone or anything that intervenes in my plan to set six SLW eggs and my SFH eggs, however many there shall be on said date.  I cannot be responsible for my actions toward anyone interfering with this operation.

That would do rather a good job of covering for your roo :p
*sigh* but for some reason I really really want some guineas, I just think they are cool looking birds
I really want guineas, too! They seem so neat! Independent and cute... like modern little dinosaurs roaming in a pack :) Great bug control, too.

if u r getting chicks from a huge hatchery that usually vaccinates u need to vacinate but if u are getting from a smaller hat hery that has no history of illness and usually does not vacinate u probably have nothin to worry bout good luck!!!!
