  • A youth under age 16, accompanied by a properly licensed adult, may enjoy those privileges conveyed by the licenses held by the accompanying adult.
  • A youth under 16, who has obtained a certificate of competency showing his or her completion of the hunter safety course, may hunt without a license, but must carry his or her certificate while hunting.
  • A landowner or person leasing land primarily for cultivation, their spouse, and dependents under 18 residing with them, may hunt, trap and fish on such land without a license.
  • A resident of this state who is a member of the Armed Forces of the United States serving outside the state, or who is on full-time military duty outside the state in a reserve component of the Armed Forces of the United States is exempt from hunting, inland and coastal fishing license requirements while on leave in this state for 30 days or less. Those who qualify for this exemption shall carry on his or her person at all times, during the hunting or fishing activity, their military identification card and a copy of the official document confirming they are on authorized leave from a duty station outside of North Carolina.

An individual exempt from the requirements of a hunting license must obtain a “Big Game Harvest Report Card” from the Wildlife Resources Commission or a wildlife service agent, at no charge, when exercising the privileges of big game hunting.

Inland Fishing
  • Persons under age 16 are exempt from the requirement of a
basic inland fishing and trout privilege license.
  • The game lands license is not required to fish in any waters
on game lands or Wildlife Conservation Areas.
  • An inland fishing license is not required to fish in a private pond. A
pond or lake located on land owned by a public body such as a state supported
university or a governmental entity is not a private pond.
  • July 4th is declared “FREE FISHING DAY,” and a fishing license and
trout privilege license are not required in any public waters on this date.

Morning NC!

It doesn't know what to do outside today - snow or just gloomy:)

My deformed beak chicken is still holding her own. She makes a mess hen eating and is usually still pecking away when the other girls have had their fill. Don't know how she does it - do chickens have tongues?

My chicken supplier told me to come by for another free chick just in case this one doesn't make it so I might do that later this morning.
Going to finish food shopping with my daughter and granddaughter this morning. That shouldn't take long so I might go fetch another chick after that.

Have a good day everyone!

Good Morning Chicken people!! DH is already hard at work outside trying to get more done in the garden (LOTS of dirt to shovel). Sadly, we think we ordered more dirt then what we can use at this point...we are running out of other supplies (newspaper/cardboard) and we only completed ONE row!!

Not sure what DH has up his sleeve, but he's bound and determined to get it ALL done today - without an actual tractor, I am not sure HOW he'd be able to get it done as we (so far only he) have been shoveling by hand into the attachment on our mower. Our row is 6 feet wide and 60 feet long...and after 5 trips yesterday we managed to get 2/3 of the way finished...not sure how the rest is going to fair...I may be running to the store to buy a LOT of boxes or something!!

Chickens and ducks are staying locked up until further notice. They are NOT going to be allowed out until I start to see some EGGS!!

My fear is that they are going to refuse to lay, then the minute I let them out, they will run to their secret stash in the woods or something and lay a multitude.
That would be just my luck!! Although I have some seasoned layers (my Marans) who are not laying either, and they haven't laid since the one went broody last year. Not sure WHY...I thought they might be molting, but that never happened, so I'm just not sure why the strike. Someone come over and SCARE the eggs out of them, please!!

So Emu or Donkey for coyote protection...hmmm...I am liking these options! What about for wild boar? Would a donkey or emu take care of one (or a pack) of those?!?

Have a great day everyone...I'm off to come up with a killer breakfast idea for the hubby while he slaves away. I just have to say I am so blessed with such an incredibly hard working wanna-be country boy but really a suburbia boy at heart husband!!

This reminds me, last year I joked that I was going to have "Guinea Cam," attach a little camera to my Guinea girls so I could see where they went and laid their eggs. I can't tell you how many miles I must have hiked searching for those little gems.

Good morning! Got a few minutes to myself and wanted to check in and say hello, and get caught up, before I get back outside and take advantage of some rare GOOD WEATHER. Hope everyone is doing well today.

I have a brooder full! Swedish Flower Hen babies, SLW babies, Blk Australorp babies, and one gigantor Ameraucana! They are so sweet.

I am getting in the Easter spirit and have started an Easter Special on my Swedish Flower Hen eggs. I am selling them for $15 for 6 eggs for Easter hatching!

Woke up to the neighbor driving down our driveway honking - the horses were out and were all the way up IN THE ROAD. We threw on clothes and caught them and tied those jokers up. The ground has been so wet that they are able to lean on the fence and simply lay the posts down enough to get over it. This is the second time this week. So we will spend the better part of the day teaching the 2 yr old granddaughter the fine art of fence repair. DH has made a run to Burlington to get some sac-crete and to pick her up right now.

DH took me out to dinner last night, it was so nice to get out and have a good time and spend time together.

Well, gotta go. I've got seeds to start, brooder to clean, incubators to stalk, laundry detergent to make, horses to beat (lol), fences to fix, and chickens to feed. Have a great day!

Since it wasn't raining yet, I spent this morning getting fresh bedding down for chicks and calves, refilling nest boxes, and filling up all the automatic feeders. Then I went down to the bigger chickenhouse (I'm gonna have to name these!) and started getting it ready for occupants. When I move them over spring break, I'm going to split them up a bit. The oldest ones that have just started laying will go on one side. They younger ones can go on the other, so I can get them wormed before they start laying. As soon as they start, I'm worm the older ones, then put them back together.

Trying to come up with an expansion plan that's practical. I'll have to get some of you out here this summer to help me think!
