North Carolina

I am getting kind of depressed, you all live out West, does nobody with chickens live on the coast?

Did I tell you that there will be a flock swap in Richlands coming up. I will be heading there.

I haven't, yet. I keep hoping to find it locally and not pay shipping!

Good Morning, Happy Chicken People!

When the sun came out yesterday, I couldn't resist, and let the chickens out. I was pleased that they all went back in at night, all went to the roosts...when I was having some keep trying to sleep in nest boxes before....and all the layers had found the nest boxes with no problems. Yay!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning!  They only charge $5.99 flat shipping.  I usually get together with one or two other people and then we split shipping.  They also have dog and I believe cattle/livestock supplies.
Yes, I've found one thing there before that I needed and couldn't find locally. But if I don't have an order going in for what I need, I'm not about to double the cost of something small with shipping costs. But I'll buy local whenever I can anyway. I'll just remember to stock up this summer!

Nursebecky99: I will post the whole thing once its totally finished. Gonna put another coat of paint on this Friday and finish the side I didn't paint at all. Then the wire can get put up. The guy building the whole thing still has to put some finishing touches on the inside and rig the door from the coop to the run so it can be opened from outside the run. Have all the necessary hardware, just waiting on him to get the time to do it. Probably this weekend and then hopefully the wire and roof on the run next weekend. Chickens in their new home by last week of the month.

I need to get my butt out the door and go to work. I got a little behind today, I was watching The Chick-O-Lympics in my brooder, and it was my favorite event!! I don't know what it's called, but it involves climbing to the top of the feeder and then LEAPING from the feeder squarely onto one of your opponents. Extra points for the longest leap, and even more extra points if they screech when you land on them! Penalty for landing in the water, or being knocked off the feeder before your leap. Giganto Ameraucana won again. She's undefeated!!!

What's your favorite Chick-O-Lympics event?

I like the head bobbing square dancing that my youngsters do (can't really speak with regards to chicks though!! LOL)

Chick question: If I order a bunch of chicks for this spring - will they need a heat lamp on them if they are being kept outside and the temps are not cold? I don't want to kill my meat birds...prematurely that is!!

NH, I'd give them option of a heat lamp at any time of year. If they had a broody hen, they'd be using her. If it's hot, like August, I might turn it off during the day, but I'd still make sure they had it at night.

My favorite event is watching to see which chick can sleep for the longest standing up without falling over. That, and all the chest bumping.
