Ok, two more pictures of Boots. I've looked online, and it seems that if it were a hen with damaged ovaries, growing the comb and wattles and even some rooster feathers, it seems to happen after several years old. This leads me to assume that Boots is just a really late bloomer, seeing as s/he is only 9 months old. Unless it has/can happen(ed) in chickens this young? Anyway, here are the pictures. Slightly better pictures of the chicken in question:

Oh, Cricket, no matter how hard you try to deny it....s/he looks like a rooster!

I know! The more I look at the pictures, the more convinced I am that Boots was just a late bloomer. The other four roosters we got from the breeder (straight run of 8 bantams), all started crowing at about 5 months of age, and none looked like Boots. They all are/were the lean, long legged MGB looking roos, not Boots. Boots IS the only on that came out of that group with feathers on the feet and legs, so I'm wondering if s/he's just a different bantam mix. Mama was MGB who decided to sneak off and hoard some eggs, and the 8 I got, plus a few others, were the result of her "hoard".

boots is most likely part cochin, they are slower to develop, at least here they are, and are much chunkier and fluffier that other roos.

Good Morning everyone!! Slept with the house completely opened up and woke up to the birds chirping and not a peep from the coop. It's sad when you get up BEFORE the roosters do!! LOL. Heard my mysterious late blooming rooster (seems I am not the only one to have a "late bloomer" although mine has a funky comb so it makes it harder to tell...MUTT) yesterday ATTEMPTING to crow - my oh my it was FUNNY!! DD looks at me all seriously and asks, "Momma is it okay?"

Not getting much accomplished here, the weather's been too nice and we've just been outside enjoying it!! I've also been outside trying to sneak up on my ducks to see WHERE they might be stashing those eggs of theirs!!

Must get the baking done BEFORE the heat sets in (I honestly don't know HOW they did it with wooden stoves all those years ago...in the summer...I'd melt - especially being pregnant!! LOL). This weekend we are moving our broody and giving her 12 eggs!!

That means the first week of May (ish) I'll have hatched....12 +/- ROOSTERS!!

Also, I think my babies are growing up and will start to lay soon because the boys have been taking a KEEN interest in them recently...either that or they are just being roosters and will you know...mount anything!!

Have a wonderful day and I hope there is LOTS of Chicken TV going on!!

That's what I was thinking. I looked them up and read about them a little. Oh well, seems we were destined to have more than one roo! I WAS hoping to buy a big roo so I can get full size chickens, but I don't need 3 roos here! I guess I'll have to wait...unless someone wants a bantam roo or two??
