North Carolina

Im not as experienced as some of the others on here who have been doing this for 5+ years.  I was under the understanding that a Gold Comet, Red Star, Gold Sex Link, Cinnamon Queens are all about the same.  The hens are always brown with just some very light flakes of white around the neck or tail.  The cockerals will be mostly white with a little brown sometimes none.  So if its a Red Star its definately male; Maybe you will get lucky and its a hen thats a leghorn mixed with something

I hope so. It's not looking to good;( the hatchery in Wake Forest gets them from Meyer's hatchery and my
Understanding they do the sexing. The bright red comb has me worried. I'm in Downtown Cary and I'm allowed 5 hens, if it turns out to be a roo I'm worried about introducing another chick due to age/size difference.

Ewwww, and have something hanging between my legs all the time? No thanks! Besides, what doesn't kill me makes me stronger. No man will ever really understand what true love and devotion are. I would kill for my children, I mean a visceral, animal instinct kind of kill. I would go for the throat with my teeth to save my children, I can't describe it, its more passion than I have ever felt before in my life and being pregnant is not all misery, there is something about being pregnant that makes you feel more beautiful than you've ever felt before, even with hemerrhoids.

Hey I have to give women lots of props for childbirth. I thought I was in some pain when I passed a kidney stone, I would die if I had to pass a 10" head! And I would not ever want to be the one who messed with your youngin's. Very discriptive writing there, I got a visual of a ******-off half woman/half cougar beast standing there with 6" fangs and red eyes and hissing! We may not have to go thru the physical pain you ladies go thru but I feel mental pain every time of the month when the PMS comes around. It takes a real man to tactfully handle that situation twelve times a year. Lol! Just sayin...

Well I guess I need to rehome a roo;( my husband isn't convinced. The hatchery will exchange the chick since it has a 98% accuracy but my husband is concerned about adding a new chick to the existing ones which are all 8 weeks old.

As a single dad that has my daughter full time, i agree that i would kill for my child. She has lived with me for going onclose to probably 11 or 12 years of her almost 14 years. Wouldn't trade it for the world on most days though.

y'all actually use bins?? I got a pile out back behind some cactus (which grew VERY QUICKLY lol) I throw it there and forget it, til I throw something else there:gig
Our "bins" are made out of hog panels. The pile can go higher, it gets air-flow, and keeps the dogs out of it. Mostly. Since Reilly joined the family, hubby put field fence in a loose circle around the bins, too.

We do.  They are the Jumbo Northern Bobwhites.

do ship/sell hatching eggs. All I can ever find is bobwhite, sold in 50 lots at hatcheries and I'd love to have jumbo! This is project I'm taking up for my Mother, she used to spend ages in the field behind the house she grew up in listening to and watching them she loves them and misses the sounds. I'm hoping to focus mainly on projects she is interested in, because while she enjoys the birds I do have, and 'loves' she doesn't Love them like I do, and I love her to have some things that keep interested in what I'm Doing. So my two main projects this year are bobwhite, and build a pen and put in another pond for wood ducks.
O speaking of pond, I don't know if any of yall have tried this or maybe I'm a little slow with ideas, but after all the rain and the ducks, 'digging' in the mud, I decide I would dig a 1-1 1/2 ft whole to sink their pool into, well my friend told to attach a hose to bottom with a plug on the end, so then Icould drain the pools from the bottom, I'm gonna try it tomorrow and see how it works, cause I'm sick of dumping their pools twice a day
