Good morning everyone! I am at work for another 2 hours...BOO!
In other news, My staggering unsteady pullet is moving around the brooder, still unsteady but bright-eyed and seems to feel okay. I am still worried about her and getting some vitamin drops for her today.

Wild - I am so happy to hear that things turned out as well as could be expected! Kuddos to the parents for really trying to make an example and I agree with everyone here...God truly works in mysterious ways!

It is a very sad day here at the Meadows. We had decided to keep the chickens and ducks locked up for a few days to see if we could get them to start laying in the coop again rather than out in the woods...somewhere. I checked on my girls and boys at 11 yesterday and gave them a few treats (I always feel bad when they are under "house arrest") and DH went out at 4:30 to check again only to discover that one of our ducks was laying in the coop. He thought she was laying an egg and so he didn't mess with her at first, fed the remaining gang and as his custom, he went to her with the feed bucket to let her eat out of it only to discover upon getting closer (he originally just saw her through the doors)...she was no more. I don't know. I'm so sad! These ducks are more to us than just poultry...they are our pets and have stolen our hearts. I have NO clue what could have happened. The only thing we did differently lately was stocked the run with cut grass/leaves/pine needles to help cut down on the mud and then we locked them up for a day and a half. Has this ever happened to anyone who raises Muscovies? Could she have been egg bound? How would one check/know? We had assumed they were laying in the woods and that's why we weren't getting any eggs. Could it be something else? Should I deworm my flock? Should I add supplements? I know things like this happen, but I really do feel like a failure!! I KNOW the pregnancy hormones are NOT helping as I sit and type and cry!!

I hope everyone else has a better day. Now...now I am tempted to get an incubator just to hatch out some ducklings!! <sigh>

Thank you ever for you condolences.

I went out this morning with a photo of the car, crushing my bird(neighbor got the whole thing on his game cam) and found the home of a very sorry 15 year old boy and his best friend. I showed the photo to the parents, who were extremely appalled at their son's behavior . They informed that he had just gotten his license and was told he could only go up and down the side street here, needless to say daddy went red in the face when he realized he went off the side road

. I later found out that they raise chickens as well, the mother and I went out outside and talked birds for a while, and after much protesting she made me take a sweet little hen

. Then to top it all off, about an hour the father and son pull up in my drive way, the father then asks if I need any help cleaning coops, I'll told him no, but he wants his son to pay for what he did. So he is now outside mucking my muddy flooded barn

Thank God for good parents

WOW! Brought tears to my eyes to think there still are good parents and this young man has the opportunity to become a responsible and caring adult. This is an awesome testimony.

Just got my first batch of shipped eggs ever! I won them in the cinco de mayo hatc-a-thon. They were packed up super great and all look to be in good shape, gonna check air cells tonight

Mom found a flea on Dixie, who is a mostly inside pekingese, 2 weeks ago. She and Raymond(outside Sheltie/Chow/57 mix) both got their first Advantage of the year. Got to get the cats(1 in/1 out) dosed as well.

Matt
