neighbor kids were down here this afternoon, and while I had my back turned they opened the door to my quail pen. Two days ago I got some bobwhites and today both females and the male took off

after a Three hour chase we lost all three in woods. I'm so bummed. It took me forever to find jumbo bobwhites. Now I'm back to searching for more.
Sorry to hear about that! I don't know anything about bobwhites, but maybe they will return? If I hear or see anything about jumbo bobwhites I'll let you know.

She is an amazing mama! We had such terrible thunderstorms quite a few nights when she was still sitting on the nest and at one point her nest flooded where we had to help her get the water out and she never quit or abandoned her eggs (even though the four boys ditched her!). We were definitely mesmerized by her determination to hatch them! After half of them hatched she would just watch them and made sure they tucked in and even our four boys would stand around her and guard her and the babies! Then last night it started raining and she opened her wings and they all ran in and you just saw 18 pairs of little feet under her body! Absolutely amazing to witness! And every keet she hatched made it! So proud of her!

Unfortunately though, we've had the ad on Craigslist for over 24 hours and no one has been in touch with us yet :( I thought the same, that it'd be no problem selling them, so I'm really surprised! And a little concerned because 18 is a lot to keep on top of what we already have!
I would love to take them but I am still trying to get my second coop finished so I can move my big birds to new coop and 3 week old chicks to the old coop. I have no where for the guineas to go... and I would prefer to give them somewhere safe at night.... Sorry!

Good morning folks

I'm so sorry!!!!

I believe you'll be able to tell these, but if you are worried about it, then at lockdown put the Marans in a basket that's upside down, or a lingerie bag, or something where they can move and breathe but not interact with the neighbors.
Good idea, thanks!!!

Is it sad that I was "jumping for joy" last night when I found a huge snake skin in my feed shed.

Measured 5'8".

I was for sure that the cats and dogs were keeping the snakes away. My wheat field was harvested last week and they started to disk the fields yesterday. Guessing that may have something to do with the huge snake. Now here is to hoping the snake like the taste of rat not chicken. I have only lost 2 chickens ever to a snake a year back, small price to pay for a rat free barn.

Yay! I should have brought you that rat snake CSB brought me yesterday! Since the mowing will send all the rodents your way, too...you need all the rodent eaters you can get!

Oh gosh, we went through the exact same thing of moving! And then we had the babies living in the brooder box in the house and our main coop wasn't even done yet! And then we ended up building two runs! Regarding the guineas, we actually raised our guinea keets and chicks together in the brooder and then moved them together to the coop and I read that it helps calm the guineas down and I think it really made a difference for ours! You can actually pick them up and they aren't afraid of us at all. (We actually got to stand right next to the mama guinea while she hatched her keets and she didn't mind us at all- she would hiss at other things to get away but she knew we weren't a threat and never acted aggressive towards us, thankfully!) I've read on a lot of forums that even when they are full grown people have their guineas and chickens still sharing a coop. Unfortunately, that didn't work out so well for us because we were surprised with 2 out of four of our silkies turning out to be roosters that are the most protective things ever (they even attack us if we're in the run!) so poor guineas had to move out and have their own run built!

My little silkie seems to be doing a little better. Not hardly any more blood in the poop. Is it ok to still treat her and her brother and sister when the corid comes. Should be here today or tomorrow. Is there an egg withdrawal with corid and is the dosage 1-2 teaspoons per gallon for 5 days? Want to get this right. What is good to feed her with to put a little weight back on her? She lost a little from not eating a few days. Fix her some egg, yougart not really a favorite with all 3. Wondering about cat food? Just looked at my e-mail. Corid is arriving today. Any time now.
