North Carolina

Don't worry. I have talked to a few more people and they are just about as far as you are or aren't willing to sell. I am definately interested in hearing more from you! Do you mind me asking how friendly the birds are, where you are located, and how much you are willing to sell them?
DST, I just purchased 4 buffs and 2 RIRs from Hollow today. The girls are beautiful, very healthy, calm and friendly. I could not be more pleased! I don't think you will be disappointed if you buy from her.

BTW, I also got three beautiful eggs today after they arrived.

I do think these mosquitoes are immune to everything. We had to bomb the house last weekend cause if the nasty critters and drain flies! Just now walking from my car to the porch I to bitten about 5 times. Er! And I swear that bug spray with deet does nothing! And my cucumber plants have been long gone. Tobacco worms at half of my cabbage. Chickens have eaten zucchini. And my squash are covered in mud. I've lost half of my corn because of the mud and muck and the few watermelons I had became rotten cause they sat in pools of water from this rain. I'm glad you got ginger snap well. I really hope the rest of my flock doesn't get it. I tell ya we've had a time with sickness and disease from the time we got some of them I truly think the ones we got all from one place were already sick as chicks we started with 73 and are now down to 27 from that place. :( poor things.

I almost lost Ginger Snap to botulism as well, I think. I was lucky that she is spoiled and doesn't hide that she is feeling bad. I was able to flush her system out with an Epson salt/water solution. Took her a few days to get her balance back, but she recovered. Tonight is her first night sleeping outside again in the coop.

Last night's flood took the watermelon plants from the outer garden. I don't mean they are wrecked. I mean they are GONE. There were a couple dozen sugar babies coming along nicely. Now there is nothing but a mud slick and a railroad tie. That 8 foot 8x8 is extremely heavy, but was moved over 50 feet from where it was half buried behind the mailboxes. Also lost all the half-runners in that garden. Mom is ticked about her greenbeans.

Glad Ginger Snap is doing better!
So sorry about your garden! Sugar babies are my favorite watermelon. Yum! You must have really had a flood to do all that damage.

NewHomesteader2010 if ya don't mind me askin how far are ya from mr manning a store in middlesex? We have been looking homes for sell in middlesex but most are in Johnston county. But they are all about 5 to 10 minutes from here. Found a nice one on selma rd but we need more land for all these animals we have. :(

My coop is pretty dry despite the rain but I have sand on the floor and it is up on cider blocks. You all are making me thankful to be living on the coast! Despite all the rain we have pretty good draining soil! Although that is about all it is good for lol! I just did my first cull yesterday. 3 out of my four roosters are now in the fridge. It was a little hard watching them die, but then I was ok. I was able to integrate the younger chicks last night and they are doing well this morning although the little ones haven't come out of the coop this morning and the older ones haven't gone back in. Time will tell.
