Linz, you are correct! My twins were 23 weeks and we were told they were the weakest preemies to have. They call them whimpy white boys! BUT they made it

Genetics determine sex in chicks...not temps

LOL... I think being preemie makes them think they need to make up the difference! She romps with the "big kids" even though she is only 17 months!

they are 6 months now. I know that none of them are anything more than what they are, and that is hatchery quality. I just want to keep the best one for our flock. Later down the road when we meet some local show breeders hopefully we can get better birds to breed.

Well, to stop this bantering lol I have to say we bought chicks. Not eggs. although I did purchase 12 eggs from e-bay (huge mistake) only 5 hatched and they turned out to be the ugliest 5 roosters out of them all. curled combs and tiny. Never again will I make that mistake!

So many people have had bad experiences with ebay eggs! Knock on wood, I've never had a problem, that's where I've gotten all my eggs except for one time.
Definitely not cost effective because the eggs I have bought have all been really expensive, but I wanted some of the harder to find breeds so that pretty much left ebay.
I always look for someone with a high rating, lots of bidders, and not too far away so the eggs aren't traveling across the country (though the blue breda I have in now came from California and 9 out of 10 made it to lockdown).
I wouldn't give up on it completely from one bad experience especially if there is something specific you are looking for that you can't find locally.
I don't get mine for breeding though, I live in the city so don't keep any roosters. Just want an eclectic blend of layers :)
Good luck to you!

I thought they were from a hatchery, which there is nothing wrong with for learning and all with. If you could get a side shot of each of them it would help, but from the pictures I seen Blondie might have the better body.

Hellooo helloooo! Glad most of you are doing well, and sorry to those experiencing losses.

Today at work someone was telling me that I should completely STAY AWAY from my chickens because I am pregnant... really? I have done some research, and it didn't really turn up much solid info -- anyone know if there is any truth to this? NH?? We only have 8 hens so its not like I am constantly entering a dusty poopy coop to do upkeep... Hubs has been doing most of the care.

Anyone?

I did chickens all through my 3 babies, rode horses and garden on top of it all. I think my kids turned out ok

but no problems with the pregnancies

I see the weatherman is trying to junk up
the weekend and put rain into it. I love a gentle
rain but with limited time to get things done, I
would rather it rained during the week..........
besides.......I had hopes of going to the fair on Saturday

hope everyone has a good day
