Ok ... with broody hen I am still struggling. .. she is still in nesting box with no eggs...I could not find any chicks to put with her so I tried locking her out, waiting till dark and going in and putting her on roost, I even dunked her twice on two separate days.... nothing has worked. I do not want to wait another 21 days with eggs because I am afraid she will not make it, so I am picking up a wire cage today from a dude in Eli Whitney and hopefully within 3 or 4 days she will finally break. Think positive thoughts for me....

I was gonna suggest changing her pen, might work might not.

I need some advice!

I ordered super blue layer eggs to be shipped to me since I couldn't find anyone local.
They came and they were the FILTHIEST eggs I have ever seen!
My hens have never laid an egg with that much poo on it and I certainly have never received eggs caked in excrement from mail order before.

I really wish I took a before photo because this is AFTER I spent 30 min gently brushing the egg off with the rougher side of a dry sponge. And they still look like this! I know you can't wash them before mailing or selling, but c'mon!

My question-- Is it safe to even attempt to hatch these??? There are other eggs going in (Blue Favorelles, Isbar, Marraduna Basque & Swedish Flower), would they be at risk? I know blood rings come from bacteria so this seems like I would just be putting bacteria into my incubator.

I don't know I've just never seen eggs with that much poo didn't know if I should just toss them?

And actually they're a lot dirtier in person than they look in the photo. I scrubbed as hard as I could without damaging or shaking the egg, but there's still actual poop left on them, not just the brown marks from where it was.

Sorry if I'm just being paranoid, I just wanted to check to be sure it wouldn't jeopardize my other eggs before putting them in...

Hi Sidewinder!

What types of chickens are you raising?

Help! I don't know if this is serious or not, but I just thought I should ask the people who have more experience. Today I finished building our little "Banty Hut" for our Campines. I then moved around the Cochins and our Maran pullet and cockerel (so everyone has more space). I noticed that our Cochin pullet and Maran pullet has a really watery eye that looks like its foamy-ish. I've never seen something like this and was just wondering if it is just like something got into their eye, or something serious?!?! I mean one of their eyes are completely normal and fine and the other is just really watery and foamy.

This is what it looks like

My cochin looks like this too. She just wouldn't stand still long enough for a picture. They are both acting fine, nothing out of the ordinary and as active as ever. Anyone able to help?!?

Built this for our Campines! Now I just need to find more hens to go to our rooster...

(Ignore the torn down stuff in the background! It use to be a shed type garage that was torn down recently in a storm! To much rain!!!! It is hopefully going to be turned into the base of our new giant chicken coop for all of our laying hens!!! The base was metal so we are planning on building off it and turning it into a nice giant coop!)

Welcome ncsidewinder! Your about an hour and forty-five minutes from us... No one with chickens, that are on BYC, are near me!!! Ugh... Anyway welcome.
