Yeah, poults keep trying to eat feet. Chicks try once and figure it out. Poults just maintain that hope that it'll come off next time. I don't know if that makes turkeys stupid or optimistic...or maybe a bit of both!

Hubby is finishing our "watering system" on the new chicken house today before he leaves on a business trip. So much easier once it's warm enough to use my automatic dog bowls!

I finally have all breeds separated, so can finally put chocolate Orpington eggs in the incubator. Today should be one day early, but they are going in anyway!

I might have a few leftover chicks after the claimed ones get picked up this weekend. If so, I'll post here. EEs and Buff Orpingtons in that batch. I won't have any Chocolates available this year. I will have English BBS Orpingtons later this spring, if anyone is interested here, as well as Welsummers.

I could use some help identifying the gender of my baby Fuzzyfeet. I bought 2 pullets. Imagine my surprise when one started crowing. Now the other's gender is in question.

My watering system is similar. I use a 55 gal drum for each chicken house. It's on blocks to raise it up. Since each chicken house is divided, it's got a splitter on it, and each runs to an automatic dog bowl. That is also slightly raised to minimize debris getting kicked in. We fill the drums weekly if they are indoors and check them weekly if they are outdoors. They just have hardware cloth tops so the outdoor ones can get rain, too. In winter when the mechanism on the water bowls will freeze up, I just use open bowls and fill them morning and evening. It all works pretty well. Much less effort and waste with the auto bowls. I don't care for the nipple system, but this is perfect for us.
