Haha I just learned an autopsy is for humans a necropsy is for animals.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. When I read that post the cocci sounding diarrhea and the vomiting up fluid sounded like him. Hopefully he will go peacefully when he is ready, you won't be ready, but that's how it always is. You loved him and gave him great comfort during his last weeks and I am certain he knows that. Take care, my thoughts are with you. Mindy
DH is diggin a grave for him. I'm just holding him and he's looking at me and making the ever so quiet chirps.I am doing the right thing right? I mean he's not going to get better right?![]()
Yes, and I'm glad you have your DH to help you....For what it's worth, I do think you are doing the right thing. I do not think at this point, that he will get better. You have tried everything you could, way more than most would bother to do, so you should rest easy and feel no guilt. He was in my opinion a very lucky rooster to have ended up with you.![]()

Awe. It's done. I'm still crying. Thank God for DH. He drank some water and I thought he was getting better so I changed my mind. But then he had a bad seizure and he screamed and I knew it wa time to let him go.![]()

I'm not trying to be mean, but chickens will just die for no reason at all. I had my golden lakenvelder rooster just die last week. Went by one minute and he was fine, 5 minutes later and he was dead. It happens, nothing to do but move on and try to learn from it if possible. I hope that you don't give up and keep trying as it can be quit rewarding. But as many of us know it does have it's downfalls also, just like any pet does. Sorry for your loss and hope the chicken thing works out better for you.I feel really bad guys. I just can't help but think it was my fault. Really bad feeling. DH shot him. I felt it was more humane that way. So did he. Neither one of us had the guys to do it the other way. Just couldn't stand the thought of holding him while doing it. I keep crying and it's breaking my ever loving heart! I'm really thinking about getting the other chickens a new home. Somewhere they will be safe and happy and just die of old age. Not some mystery disease that I couldn't figure out. It's driving me crazy because before he went he was drinking by himself for the first time in 3 weeks. He had a fever too.just feel stupid and guilty and irresponsible.![]()
