Good morning folks

Sure seems like the warmer temps are here to stay for now.
I guess I need to get the cover off the puddle I call a pool.

If I was limited to only one breed of chicken I would want
something that is a duel purpose breed or even a mix that
works well for the purpose of eggs and meat. A breed that
is basically tame and easy to handle. A breed that is weather
hardy and well in heat and cold. Lots of breeds fit that thought.
I would go either EEs or Marans.

hope everyone has a good day

Yes.......EE is Easter Eggers and ramirezframing has it right.......any
breeds can be used to make them but most are Ameracana mixes.
We use the Ameracanas but I am thinking of getting a Jersey Giant
hen or Langshan..........a rather larger breed hen to make bigger EEs
with my Ameracanas. We prefer the bearded and muffed EEs.

I got a few Jersey Giants they are at 5 weeks old now. I have them in with Bresse and Dominiques of the same age. The Jersey Giants are starting off very slowly. They are not fully feathered yet (about half) and are about 1/3 the size of the others.

It seems that they start off slowly even though they grow larger in the end. I've read that they mature very much later as well.

The Bresse hatched from a very large white egg so I'm thinking about some of them for EE crosses. In the Bresse I have 8 pullets and only one cockerel. But think I have 3 Lavender Ameraucana cockerels and 2 pullets. Also have 4 Black Ameraucanas but not sure what sex they are.

Good morning everyone!
Haha peacock woke us up sounding like an airhorn. Maybe he's just starting to get his voice because I've never heard that type of a peacock sound before! Going to be HOT this week, have to get the gardening done early. I finally gave in and closed the windows to put on the AC.

Hypothetical Question-- If you could only have one type of chicken in your flock, what would it be? My husband asked me this this morning and I couldn't come up with 1 I was stuck at like 10. Just curious what others would say.

I would keep my Buckeyes if I could only have one. I am surprised at how much I like the Bresse.
too.

I am using a Marans hen with my Wheaten Ameraucana rooster to get Olive Eggers. The Marans has increased the egg size and her daughter's size. I find that the Wheaten Ameraucana's eggs are smaller but a very pretty shade of blue. I just hatched out some Production Red/Ameraucana crosses. Again, these chicks are larger than the pure Ameraucanas chicks.
