We had 2 ducklings hatch yesterday morning. Hen keeps returning to the dog crate and sitting on the eggs that are left (I can't remember how many there are, maybe 3?)...

The other hen has a nest hidden up under the cover from our truck between some exposed tree roots. Figure we'll see some ducklings from her as well here soon.

Taking a stroll thru the barn - she returned to the crate in the carport while I spent 3 hours feeding and grooming ponies.

And a couple of pics of our grand daughters' on Father's Day when they came out. The youngest isn't too keen on that wiggling chick in her hands - I thought I would die laughing. But she took good care of it and I was able to get a couple of pics and then put the chick back in the pen.

I hope to purchase the supplies to build at least one & possibly 2 hoop coops tomorrow afternoon. Hope to have at least one built by Sunday, then will go from there.

Can we post a pic of something else? I was so HAPPY yesterday to say "nooooooo"... to farm/house maintenance and actually pulled two ponies out, adjusted the harness on the one who hasn't been driven in forever (more than 6 months) and did a drive that equaled about 45 mintues in time and went about a mile down the road (round trip - it was hot and they are not used to pulling). Friend go t a couple of good pics... Today, I worked with 2 yearling colts - one is still heavily furred up and my clippers aren't working. I feel sorry for the little guy - but at least he doesn't smell so bad now! He's been sweating a lot lately.

All the chicks are enjoying having the xpen that I put chicken wire around moved around. They get inthe nest and I can cart it around, LOL.

I believe this blue ameraucana is maturing well?? I don't know the sex yet on any of them. Have at least one that I will be culling... Does length of tail show sex? This is one of the long/high ones. Have a couple of others as well... The youger 4 seems to be really slow developing - still tiny and not fethering out at the same rate? Has anyone else noticed that development is "staggered" when the same breed of chicks hatched only a week apart? It just seems strange to me... Not that I'm worried - they are doing great and thriving! They are absolutely beautiful!!!

I am falling in love with "blue" birds.

Anyone using poultry nipples???

I want to build a system out of pvc to replace the constant scrubbing and refilling of all these waterers you buy at the store.
I've been looking online and there are a lot of people complaining about ones not working or leaking.

Did anyone have any issues converting your flock?

Is there a brand or type you'd recommend?

THANKS!

I've used the chicken nipples with the 5 gal buckets...chickens have no problem converting....I have three age groups....all convert almost instantly. I just flip the little metal thing and they see the water..... Problem I have is that there is always one leaking......no matter if I have put in 2/3/or 5 !!! I use plumbing clear caulking and plumbers tape.....BUT its better than those old ones that I started with.!

I would be interested in some - the blue rumpless EE, splash pullet - 0E, red EE, blk EE - lt grn egg...

And WHAT is a Bandy pullet?
Sorry....Bandy's are blue Andalusian mixed hens from a project so not purebreds
....very nice layers but on the smaller large fowl scale. We just call them Bandy's...
some hatched blue and some hatched black.......1 black is all I have left, sold the others.

@Coop Scoop Boogie im VERY interested in your 2 golden lakenvelder hens. how often do they lay? they are such a pretty breed!
They are in a laying flock of several hens and it's hard to say who layed which egg.........
2 were pullets last year and 1 is this year pullet so you should get eggs. Lots of the hens
have slacked off laying with this heat. Yes......goldens are dang hard to find!!!!!!!!
