Good morning folks

Today is the first day of the Hwy. 301 Longest Yard sale.

It is yard sale after yard sale after yard sale and you can
find some great bargains. I am going to be one sore tired
old lady this evening but do love snooping about at yard sales.

hope everyone has a good day

*Sigh*

Been wanting rain for like 3 weeks, but not in the form of the storm we got last night!

26 corn stalks snapped over and broke and the backyard flooded so quickly my hen that insisted on building a nest in my rabbit pen lost all her eggs as the house flooded.

I'm sorry about your corn and the hens eggs being lost. Is the hen alright?

Thanks!

Yes, she is all right, just mad as hell she doesn't have eggs under her!
I took some eggs from another broody and tried to put her on a real nest, but she won't stay on it, she keeps going right back to the rabbit house she decided to move in to like a month ago.
She's in there hollering, but I don't want to give her more eggs in there.
They were mail order so they were really expensive. I wasn't thrilled about her being there in the first place but she was pretty adamant about it.

Is there a trick to moving a broody on her nest???

Thanks!

Oh, I am so so sorry that you lost your expensive eggs! If there is a trick to talking a broody hen into ANYTHING I haven't learned it yet!

Oh, I'm so so sorry. As bad as we needed the rain, I sure wouldn't want it to destroy all that we have worked on. Poor baby...with no eggs. I'm in an area where we lost everything back in 1999 with hurricane Floyd. I worked with the Red Cross disaster teams and I would stand there looking at the flooded area .... and still not believe what I was seeing.. Everyone around here was paranoid for a while. When it rained, we would immediately take notice of the mud puddles!!!!

I have had hens that will move and others that absolutely refuse to move. If I need one of those to raise chicks I wait till the eggs are hatching in the incubator or under another hen and place the pipped egg under the one I want. They always move where I want after they have chicks.

Is there a way you place a raised nest in the rabbit house? That way she is where she wants to be, but out of the water.

If those eggs were close to hatch they may hatch yet. We have a
turkey hen who insists on laying her egg "IN" the water pan and
yet we have been successful in hatching some of them. We have also
had broodies end up with a flooded nest and yet hatch out the eggs
..........so no harm in giving it a try. Matt has the right idea........raise her
nest. We have broodies raising poults right now.........Calico Sweetgrass
