North Carolina

Well, I managed to catch the remaining lost sumatra hens this morning. So that just leaves the 2 dead polish hens as a loss so far. All the other birds seem to have made it through the night.

RF, I'm sorry for your Polish losses.

Wow yesterday was just an unlucky day! I went to check on my birds before going to my sister's baby shower to find a duck and a chicken missing. After searching, I spotted the duck dead in the neighbor dog's mouth (a small, old beagle mixed with something like a chihuahua). The chicken showed up a couple of hours later, probably was hiding in the woods. Needless to say I am working on their permanent coop today to hopefully keep them safer.

Our newest addition, I just love him, wanted to share!
He's an Altex, which is technically a meat breed, but he's a rescue so he's a pet. He's crazy sweet.
I may breed him to one of my NZW does down the line.
He is HUGE!
From what I understand they're made as a cross between California, Flemish Giant, and New Zealand whites. They get the red eyes with the Cali coloring and the giant size.
We just grew up with a bunch dutch rabbits so all these other breeds are new to me!

Busy day. The barn cat got hurt this morning, and is at the vet needing her tail amputated. It got too hot for me to do what I had planned to do outside this morning, since I had to go to the vet. But I got a free bale of hay out of the deal. I was following a pickup with a precariously balanced load of hay on my way to the vet, and sure enough, one fell off. I laid on my horn, and the truck zoomed off. I guess he thought maybe the hay hit my car and I was mad or something. Anyway, after I left the vet, it was still there on the side of the road, so I pulled over and loaded it up! I'd return it if I could, but no sense letting it go to waste!

RF, hope your day is better. If there's anything I can do, let me know. I have a few empty cages if you need temporary spots for anyone. And crates.
