Your right about not being on here much. When I lost Ginger, the one with the cyst under the wing, was the last time I was on and that was in Feb. To much to catch up on now, but I'm sorry RF about the dog problem. I hate losing chickens to anything. So far this year we have lost 5. Ginger and 3 of the teenagers, the ones we hatched last fall. I thought it was worms at first because I found 3 worms, one where the Rooster sleeps, one on the ground and I saw one of the teenagers pass one. So treatment began and no eggs for 24 days. All was good until another teenager was acting sluggish, walking slow, sleepiness watery stool so I went ahead and put Corrid in the water. This was a month or so later after the worming. Now I think it was coccidiosis because of the not wanting to eat and I saw on here, they don't have to have blood in the stools. The last one showing the sleepy symptom remind me of the one I had last year that had it. Just wished all the symptoms showed up sooner and maybe could have save these 3. Sad to say the last one I lost this past Sunday was Ember the Black Cochin/ Silkie mix. I think she got too hot last week when it got to 104 here because that was when she started feeling bad. They all have 2 waterers in the pens and shade but I think I am going to order a mister. She began panting heavily on Sunday and her feet were hot to the touch. Our internet tower got struck by lighting so I could'nt use it to find out what to do and our AC went out the night before so it was cooler outside than in the house. I wrapped her in a wet cool towel but she later died in my arms. So now we have internet, AC but no Ember. Wish I knew more to do. Since this happen I did see to put them in a tub of cool water and let them stand in it and keep the comb cool. Any other info on this would be great cause I know hotter days are coming.Olivia

and Ember: Rest in peace my babies. On a happier note we had 2 to hatch out 2 weeks before Easter. A white and a gray silkie. I think the white one is going to be a rooster and the gray a hen. No crowing yet. They are 11 weeks old today

you mentioned misters....my son picked one up...its supposed to be one to fit the perimeter of an umbrella. They had moved and didn't have the umbrella! LOL BUT...he had the mister...worked great. take care, you all have been thru a lot.

Oh! Had a lovely lunch and conversation today with FVRM! I soooo enjoy meeting new 'chicken people!' He's got some great ideas, too. I hope he follows through and expands on a couple of them he mentioned....

Big goofy Levi took an extreme liking to him, trying to Velcro himself to him so that it was difficult to walk! I almost took Levi indoors and crated him. But instead, I let poor FVRM get exuberant Great Dane love. I'm a bad host! The older, more mannerly dogs greeted him, got petted, and then gave some space. Not the puppy. Sorry, FVRM!!!

Thanks for the kind words and the suggestions. I'm gonna pick up some tubs at TSC next time we go to put in the pens. Be glad when the watermelons are ready behind our house. They love that. Wished I knew what was going on with Ember sooner but she hid her symptoms from me too long until it was too late. Hope no next time, but I will know what to do.:/

[/quote. The chicken chick believes in misters. Saw some on Amazon at a good price. I see you are from Nash County. I adopted a dog from the shelter there last summer and we named him Nash. I also have some kin folk there :)
