Congrats on the twins. Glad to hear that all of you are home and doing well.

Tell your friend to check the hen over very well for any puncture holes. She might want to keep her by her self in a little dog kennel or something of the like so she can't be bothered by the other birds and can't move around much. Good luck with her.

She is up this morning but holding her leg extended to the back. No punctures. Worth taking to the vet for a $50 assessment fee or give her some time quarantined?

Good morning folks

Good to see folks coming back and welcome to the new ones

Well......did not get the lawn mowed yesterday. I ended up
going to TSC for a couple things and then the grocery store
for a few things while DH set off flea bombs in the house.
We had a flea explosion here and it seemed like someone
had rung the dinner bell and we were the main course. That
was round one.......got to go get more bombs so we can do it
again.....seems the first bombs didn't do much.

I have not done it so can't really tell you how but
I do know you kinda manipulate it to get it back into
place.........a vet should be able to tell if that is the
problem and get it back right. Or you can google it
and see if it tells you have to massage it back in place.

Heyyyyyy there everyone! It has been a long while since I have been on here.

Last I was here I had just found out I was pregnant with twins! Fast forward 11 months and we have two healthy little boys! We had a rough start with some time at the NICU, but we are all happy & healthy at home now.

Anyway - I have a question: a friend of mine has an injured hen. She was free ranging today and got startled - she thinks she has a hurt hip. Any advice?

I have no advice on the injury, but Whoa! Huge congratulations on the boys!

After doing some reading I figured I'd go with the easiest to treat and work my way down the list. Force fed him some electrolytes and he's much improved already. Already seen him eat and drink on his own. Perhaps some acidosis from too much heat? Upon further inspection the other three of his breed do seem to be handling the heat worse than the rest of the chicks - although not nearly as bad as him. He's stopped wheezing for the moment and is currently chirping hoarsely and angrily at me from the bathroom. I'll keep him in the bathroom overnight for observation but so far so good. Lesson learned: Make sure you are adding electrolytes to your girls water source when the temps are up! I've replaced all the ACV water with electrolyte infused water in both coops (Yes, I have two now) and will begin rotating out with ACV water every 3-4 days.

For your enjoyment here is a pic of my some of my chicks two weeks ago. I *think* that's a speckled sussex in the back, Minorcas on the far left and the far right, gold laced Polish hiding behind one of the chickzillas (aka Freedom Ranger) in the foreground. They are about 3/4 feathered now so already look totally different from this pic.

I think your back one is an EE if she has a flat comb.
She has the coloring and the green legs and some muffs.
I have several that look like that that are EE.
I also have some that look like that with no muffs, flat comb, and yellow legs all I can come up with them being in Partridge Wyandottes.
Also same thing with yellow legs and a single comb I think are partridge rocks.
By the way, I love freedom rangers!

Ok CS, I think her husband was able to massage it back into place. He heard a little pop anyhow. She doesn't seem to be in pain but is resting and alert. Let's them pick her up and fuss with her. Hope it heals in a few days time. Thanks

I think I jinxed myself! The 10 week old roo I posted the other day started crowing this morning and crowing LOUD! The other 2 in there aren't crowing yet. I hate to process this early as I think the cocci really slowed down their growing as chicks, they're not weighing nearly as much as the last batch of freedom rangers. Guess we're going to have a busy weekend....

Dang one of my modern hens won't stop being broody I tried letting her hatch some eggs but it got too hot then I tried day old chick trick and she wasn't having it I'm afraid she'll be broody until she gets too weak and dies she doesnt eat or drink nearly enough unless I take It to her
