Anybody know how much I should charge for a face cord of wood? We split and cut it ourselves and we r supposed to be delivering it. The guy originally said he'd pay 160 now he's saying he'd pay $60!!! That's a big difference especially now since we did all the freakin work.

What is a "face cord of wood"? We got a 1/2 cord of hard wood delivered and paid $70. Felt like we got a good price too!

A face cord is about 1/3 of a cord so $60 for a face cord is equal to about $180 for a full cord. I bet he thought he was getting a full cord when he agreed to $160. If he is gonna pay $60, I would take it. You can still find 1/2 cords of split hardwood for $50 with another $10 for delivery.

Our local Chicken store in Raleigh has posted their chick schedule:

Thought I'd share since it looks like they will have a couple of Maran deliveries and some of you have been looking.

Our good news is that we found the secret laying spot for our escapee chicken. I figured the kids would run across it sooner or later so I haven't looked....the eggs didn't float so I'm hoping they are fresh and she is laying presently...she'd be the only one!!!

Its our first winter free-ranging... Lost 3 fullsize chickens in 10 days to a small hawk (about the same size as our d'eccle bantam rooster. We thought the chickens had turned on each other because 2 were new, making our free range group a total of 4: white sussex, black sex link and 2 rhode island red. The hawk killed the first one in the coop, the second in a small narrow space amd the third in the coop which is when we finally saw it. Looking for a ypung hen or two to keep my girl company, she had a 8x10 coop to herself with wire over the doors so they can be open and she is safe from the hawk.

Do they have a fenced in run? You might need to cover the top with netting. A falcon and an owl took 3 of my chickens so I had to add bird netting to the top. You can buy it from Amazon. I usually get the 14ft by 14ft. And I use those little ties that come with thrash bags. To attach it to the wire fence. That bird of prey will keep coming back if you don't have a net.

Closing in on Christmas! My son is here now with his entourage...which means one dog and a bunch of snakes. Two of those are pregnant. My daughter and her family come tomorrow, including my adorable grandson! Joe's girlfriend will come by too, but her mom lives locally so she won't stay with us.

But I'm not done cleaning the house yet. Argggghhhh!

We have an enclosed 10x20 run complete with roof plus hardware cloth, 2 - 6x10 same as the other, the whole thing os about 60x60 with a 6' fence with electric fence on top there are several large trees scattered about.
