North Carolina

After rain all night we too have a pond beginning.  Since it's supposed to rain all week, I dare say I'll be wishing I could wear boots before too long!

First day back at work.  I am probably more motivated to be here since it's raining than I would be if the sun was shining!  Guess that means there's a plus to the rain after all.

The current litter of bunnies were all out of the nest box this morning.  That's the signal that it's time to turn the box on it's side for them, as they can't get back in on their own.  Cute little munchies!

However, I will be changing out my rabbits this year.  I'm going to switch to 100% Californians, instead of keeping New Zealand and Cali, and Flemish giant X.  One breed, and I prefer the Californians.  I'll have to make a trip to SC to get the ones I want.  (If anyone wants to tag along, just let me know!)

Stay warm, stay dry, and have a great day!

I am interested in getting some rabbits. Are your just for meat ? How much are they ? Please pm me the details. What part of sc? My folks live in sc.

My husband just got started with two Tennessee red rabbits for meat and I have an angora for fiber that we picked up at an auction in Clayton. They are pretty cool so far. :)

I'm pretty thrilled tonight. I started 7 eggs, 3 ended up unfertilized and 4 have cooked. Tonight we had one poke a hole and I heard some chirps. Im at day 19/20 so I'm really hoping they all 4 hatch! 3 buff Orphington and 1 Dominique.

Good morning folks

It's the start of another day.....lots of promise........lots of
potential. I just wish it was going to be a little warmer.
We have gotten a couple little EE pullet eggs and I like the
color so far....nice and rich, not the washed out pastel.
Now if only the rest would start laying.

hope everyone has a good day

Good morning nc. It's a wonderful foggy soggy cold morning here in advance. Going to hamponville this morning to the Amish Community to have my new coop customize. Vinyl structures LLC are the best Amish builders around. Great price and will build anything you want. I got my work shop from there and I love it.

A question for those flockers that may live around the Johnston county area. How many of you are familiar with Mule City Natural Backyard Layer Feed. I started using it about two months ago and my flock looks great and are laying better than they were with Purina Layena. The reason I am wondering about it is that they eat it like it's candy.

It contains various types of grain such as corn, oats, black sunflower seeds, flax seeds, and some natural forage seeds. it has added vitamin supplement and also contains molasses. It is 17% protein, 2.5% fat, and 7.5% fiber. For those of you that may know of this feed or use it I would like you thoughts and opinions. I wonder about it mainly because of the amount they are eating.

I'm not sure if it's the exact same, but for a while I used the Layer feed from http://www.littlebirdiehatchery.com/Items.php and it is something they partner with Mule City Feeds to produce...my flock LOVED it and there was a noticeable difference between the quality of it and what I was buying at the farm supply store. I hate that they aren't more convenient to me anymore (they are in Wake Forest of Hwy 98 near Falls Lake).

Some one posted a link a page or two back that listed all the sales locations for Mule City. There might be one there that is close to you. My flock really loves the stuff. Hope you find it.

I'll repeat this post on the SC thread, since I'm in Wilmington, which will wash down into SC with the next big hurricane.

I'm looking for some folks who would consider, at some point in the future, going in together on baby chick orders where the minimum is too large for us. At the moment I'm looking at some Welsummers and Marans from these folks http://www.whitmorefarm.com/ but would also be happy to collaborate on other sources as well.

Its a shame we are not closer. I am in Franklin, NC. I was wanting a one of this and that. I wanted only about 5 or 6 new chicks. Marans, amerucuana, Jubilee orp., speckled sussex, lavender orp., Partridge rock. I have a small flock of about 10 or so now and need some new blood for laying next winter. I lost my beautiful (Kathys, Deleware) rooster.

Hmm. Maybe we could work out a "meet halfway" arrangement.

I've got a sister-in-law just outside of Charlotte (Lincoln, I think) who keeps chickens.

ETA: and of course Shallotte is really close...
