Hi all,

I have some exciting news (at least to me) to share. As I was letting my girls out to range a bit I heard a small peep from under my broody. I looked closer and sure enough, one of the two eggs I let her keep had hatched.

The dad is a Lavender Ameraucana and I think the mom is a White Rock but I'm not sure. It's a yellow chick. My broody is a Lavender Ameraucana that kidnapped the eggs from another nest.

True I have been watching for any difference the only thing I have been able to notice is the weather/temp, cold snap. The girls are very used to the dogs and the dogs keep all but the mice away.

The cold snap could do it and we haven't seen the sun in days!!! Other culprits could be a change in availability of water and/or food.

You are astute. And Friday afternoon was the only time that fit in all our schedules for the whole bloomin' week! So I am at work getting a few other things done before the meeting. I could have been working from home today! In the sun! With chickens!

I'm headed out for a weekend in Hot Springs, NC and have a 2:00 meeting today too! BOOO!

Congratulations!! My broody gave up on her eggs last weekend. I put them in my incubator and one hatched yesterday morning. I gave the chick back to the broody and everyone is happy.

I have one broody, but don't have breeding groups separated, so no eggs to give her. :(

I have the urge to separate birds NOW, but it's too early for me to do that. I have them consolidated to make my winter chores easier, so separating them before the end of February defeats the whole purpose! But as soon as I can, I will be sorting birds out.

DS loaded up and was on his way this morning. He'll be back in a few hours for more. He took his small pickup, plus his friend's big king cab full-size truck pulling our enclosed Harley trailer. They got most of it. They'll drop off his stuff, go collect his girlfriend's stuff and drop it off, then Joe will leave his pickup and ride back here with his buddies. Then he'll load up his car with his snakes and go back. I'll go up Sunday for the Repticon show and to see his new place, and bring up everything he forgot, or that wouldn't fit. It'll be nice to have him moved back out. Love my kids, but nearly a month of an adult kid moved back in is a lot. Especially a messy adult kid. But I'm glad we could be there while he was between leases in the middle of moving. That's what parents are for.
