North Carolina

Speaking of coops, I'm starting construction on a new one and Ofcourse that "one neighbor" called another neighbor saying I was starting a whole chicken farm and was going to stink up and ruin the whole neighborhood! Really?? So two questions please??
1) I live in Guilford County ( outside city limits) and can't find any laws or ordinances about keeping chickens here. Does anyone know?
2) also just a poll question.. How many chickens do you have on how much land?
( I have around 50 on about an acre :) )
Thanks!!

Guilford county has no ordinances about chickens; though by NC law you cannot let them wander onto someone else's property. Greensboro city has ordinances though.
I have 15 chickens on 16 acres... Getting another 8-10 this spring. I am in southern Guildford.

Thank you. Mine are very good at staying in my yard when I let them out and I always supervise because of Hawks and loose dogs.

Good morning folks

I know the rain is a pita right now but I just remind myself of
how thankful I will be for every drop come the summer...... but
the mud does make it hard to be thankful sometimes. All in all
we have not had all that cold of a winter and it's been wetter ones
before. I wonder how long before it all breaks and these hens get
back to laying regular?

hope everyone has a good day

Landmark day for eggs yesterday! 18! Since I was getting 1-3 per day just two weeks ago, getting 18 is awesome! Also got the first egg from the 17-week-old pullets. Annnnd!!! got my first home-bred olive egg! Gorgeous! Can't wait for more!

I don't know if the driveway will ever recover from all the rain. We've considered paving it several times over the years; this might be the clincher on that deal. We'll see.

Enjoy the day. At least the wind is not like yesterday.

We have issues with loose dogs too... Our land is situated between three larger tracts of land... Two of which seems to have some issue keeping their dogs under control. One set of those dogs is human friendly the other not so much- but then neither are the people. We keep a close eye on ours too. I hope your issue gets resolved quickly and peacefully!

I found a petition for my area my new house is zoned in, asking for Fuquay to allow chickens. I know a lot of you guys aren't in the Raleigh/ Fuquay area, but if I posted the link to the petition would some of you check it out? it has 74 signatures now and it needs 100....

heres some of what they are asking in the petition...then they include the ordinance list:

"We are a group dedicated to changing the local regulations in the town of Fuquay Varina, NC for raising backyard chickens.

PLEASE let me know if you could take part in this and I can post the link :) I couldn't imagine my family without chickens
I'd be happy to help. I do not live in Fuquay, but I do have FB friends that I could share with as well.

Soggy, soggy, soggy.
The chickens are tired of rain.
The dogs are tired of rain.
The rabbits are tired of rain.
The humans are tired of rain.

We are going on strike against rain.

If I wasn't down with a cold, I'd be outside turning my garden over. This is perfect for getting a nice deep trench. When it dries out a little it'll be perfect for planting in a month or so. The deeper dug in the garden the more moisture retention for summer time! :D
